I’m using the adapters for ±200km on mostly mtb trails, so pretty rough terrain. And they hold up really good, so i wouldn’t worry about that. Just use the infill and correct amount of outer layers as stated in the discription and you are fine.
Never tried doing that - adapter idea seems interesting, I assume the wideness / longevity of the pint size rails would handle the size of an XR tyre? Wouldnt a lot of pressure be forced into that 3d printed part?
One of the main issues with the current OWs are the limited batteries, the XR is too big for airplane travel, and it would be easier if the pints was quicker to remove.
You made an awesome choice creating a swappable battery!! But you utterly failed by making them too big!! I would’ve bought your kit in a heartbeat for a plane friendly travel board. Shame. Make smaller battery packs, under 160wh! That feature would help sell MANY more boards
No one is forcing you to buy his pack. Buy everything but the battery and build your own airplane friendly one. I’d rather have more range and with me 90% of the userbase rather than to cater to the few individuals that want to fly with them.
Also (from the page) the capacity is marked as as 95wh on the battery info sticker.
And you can make your own, (or get someone to make some)
Yeah and it’s a 7/8 kg machine, with a weird profile, so it won’t really be ideal for travelling with it
And nowadays it’s more often 100Wh the limit not 160Wh, and more and more companies are even stricter
I talked to him about my project too. He wanted to build one he said but doesn’t have the time to do so, and he was looking for something capable of more than 12s batteries.
Once the LittleFOCer comes out, this will be a thing
A smaller battery will fit easily just using Sony VTC6 cells (airplane friendly in 12s1p), I’ve ordered one of these kits but I wouldn’t necessarily say the battery is that easy to swap, it looks like it is not in a protective box and has the BMS integrated, but still required unscrewing of the top / pint bumpers
I HAVE ORDERED ONE
MY DREAMS ARE FRUITING
I was making what one calls a “suggestion.” TONS of people would fly with their OW if they could, they just don’t or can’t because of the hassles. It’s little thing called “marketing”
Also I didn’t say don’t make big batteries, hell make bigger ones!! Just make smaller airplane ones too
your gonna want/need more than one battery in the long run anyway: Almost everyone I know for XRs are buying the new larger after market battery packs that are going for $600+! 15miles doesn’t cut it anymore
Having a board with a modular swappable packs to extend range AND airplane friendly is the ideal.
I didn’t know I would be able to use or make my own packs for this board. Not really sure what that involve and what not. That’s why I was making the suggestion that he makes multiple different size batteries
Ok, show me a 12s cell configuration with cells that can deliver 20A and stays under 100wh?
1500 mAh or 2000mAh cells exist like that. but you end up with 60 or 90 wh of battery, and with 12 wh/km that isnt a lot of range. I sure wouldnt fly with my onewheel if it only did between 5 and 8 km per charge.
And yes, you’re going to want/need a bigger battery in the long run. I own an XR and know what its like. But buying a 600$ CBXR batery is stupid, I built my 15s3p 50E range extender for one third of the price.
This is a DIY forum and the kit is meant for people to diy, offering 3 different battery options doesnt make sense financially. If you want a customised battery, build one yourself. Im doing it too and building a 15s1p to stay compatible with my other onewheel chargers and power packs.
I see, your just a dick. I’m new here, I don’t know that much, came here to learn about this kit. I like this product and made a worthwhile suggestion. Not everyone can build their stuff and less this forum is for hardcore DIYers but that doesn’t mean he can’t or couldn’t market to people with less skills! Like he already is but with more options.
And the point of smaller swappable packs is to have MORE of them not just 1. For a seemingly smart guy…
Oh yeah totally a dick my guy, you could even say I’m a massive stator
Honest question! Couldn’t u make smaller packs and run them in parallel? And forgive any incorrect use of terms
I saw a modified XR on one forum, need to track it down…he made his own pack, or actually 4, that all fit in his custom enclosure under the footpad. He could remove and swap them all, and they were all under the WH so he could fly with it.
I can’t justify the CBXR either! I’m actually thinking about getting a plus with VNR (1 or 2 smaller ego or powerworks batteries in parallel to take on planes!) And could also use a larger external battery to compete with the CBXR. This is why this kit got me excited at first with the swappable battery
U could but connecting them together presents massive fire hazard risks. They should probably be connected once and stay connected together.
Guy, The guys who created this kit are like 2 guys. Making many different types of battery setups would be redundant.
Its also the point of this whole forum to learn or connect with people who knows how to do this.
Yes you can make smaller packs and run them in parallel but I would advise against doing so unless you know what you’re doing.
This would be a far safer option for someone who is inexperienced with batteries.
Its not inherently dangerous to hook up packs in parallel but if their voltages differ too greatly there will be a lot of current flowing to balance the packs out. ie hooking up a full powerworks battery to an almost empty onewheel, you will want to charge and discharge them together to stay safe.
Oh trust me I wouldn’t make a battery myself, I’d hire someone or something I’m just thinking of future options and what’s possible for this kit.
