Hey guys, if you were to build a race board for short track similar to the course at ESK8con, would you stick with narrower trucks or wider trucks?
100%
@glyphiks 100% correct. Wheel centers just outside deck line edge makes a good baseline starting point. That is what the pro class guys report, gives them the best turn control.
Racing update:
Most would have seen a few highlights from the ERL Elizabeth Quay Cup in Perth Australia (surely at least the stack into the water video!)
I couldn’t have had a better showing being fastest qualifyer, and winning all three races to take out the Esk8 Pro. My board was the clear advantage I had over the rest of the competition. Can’t wait to watch the races back when the footage is released.
The BRPs performed very well on the bumpy surface and felt solid as a rock down the main straight with my 3-links at speed. The smooth wooden bridge was the only time I felt a little sketchy so I backed off over bridge.
4wd is better for grip out of a bend as when i accelerate hard it doesn’t just kick out the rear. All four wheels do a slight drift which enables me to regain control of the slide easier.
T Racing has been going well too with a few pbs on recent outings. The last session moved me up a place in 1 Lap rankings and I’ve secured top spot on the 3 Lap ranking for the time being. I know that spot at the top will be short lived but it’s nice to see some reward for the many laps I’ve been putting in to improve.
I’ll have a Race Box Mini S soon so monitor lap lines and see if there’s anymore time I can make up ![]()
Wooooh nice work dude.
Front end changes:
Few upgrades. I changed to inward mounting radius rod bracket to get the motors out in front so i can lower the ride height. Drilled the deck to allow lower ride height of 3 links. Also brought track width in to the minimum (no spacers on front axle now). Changed to the new HD axle too with new bushings.
Took her out for a spin after adjusting the front only and ride feel was quite different. The front end was quite divey. The narrower track width and the fact the front is lower than the rear probably why. I think i need to tighten front bushings too. Once i lower the rear as well and tighten the front bushings i think it will be an improvement. T race times were mid 14s with this adjusted setup and worn rear tyres so good initial signs.
Then changed the rear:
New Radium Performance 6385s as the PREVIOUS Reacher V5s had a sensor die (something grinding in that motor too).
Also lowered the ride height on the rear to match the front. Brought track width in about 15mm too.
Hoping to get it finished this week to take out and test.
Gah damnit I want a full radium setup! When I ordered my 85’s radium was out of stock and then I order 55’s and he posts his up a week later
. Setup looks sick man, my boards have always felt better the closer they are to axle height, you’re spoilt with that single stack. Did you stick to 205kv?
Thanks man. Yeah still 205kv with 18/67 gearing for now.
Been plugging away at T Racing lately and momentarily got myself into the top 3 before @Mbrady grabbed the spot back. I still got a screen grab while I was up there for keep sakes haha. I tried again tonight to sneak back in front but couldn’t do it. Hopefully some fresh BRPs and the upcoming T-Race World championships will give me extra motivation to sneak back into podium position. Check out the event here: 1st T-race World Championship
ERL season is ramping up again and have a club night on Friday to shake off cobwebs on indoor track. I’m going to see how these chunky BRPs go for shits and giggles then they’ll be going on my offroad board.
Nice dude! Didn’t even realize there was a world championship going on ![]()
Get it girl ![]()
Last indoor track night went well. The offroad BRPs didnt do so well indoors as expected but they were surprisingly smooth and quiet. Just a bit slippy through the bends. They are now on my offroad race board for next trail race.
I chucked my trusty Meepo Cyclones back on for the rest of indoor track session and immediately felt the grip. Those tyres really shine on polished concrete indoor tracks. Even though it’s been months, a new track record was made. Pumped with that! I credit the many laps of T Race training I’ve been doing and the healthy competition for the progress!
@Tasventouras came out for a T Race session to dial in his new race board and he’s definitely going to be one to watch out for when he gets a set of BRPs for the tarmac! His board looks bloody incredible too ![]()
I’ve also busted back into podium position for T Racing snagging 2nd spot! I’m loving this little competition and it really motivates me to keep pushing. I had to take a screen shot of the leaderboard again as I really feel this will eventually take off and my name will tumble down so holding onto that glory for now!
Next up will hopefully be trying out Morgan Brady’s Chicago Intro 2 Speed Circuit. I think it may even be marked out Sat this week with any luck ![]()
I wouldn’t be so sure dude, takes a lot of practice to be where you are!! So close to #1
keep pushing!!!
I think @JeffyJ needs to be present at esk8con next year with the semendeed
Yes practice, but also a capable board! It’s such a niche sport that competitor numbers are still very low. I’m realistic that as it grows they’ll be some very talented riders emerging.
But thanks for your support as always!!
That’s going to be a very difficult task unless I get some major sponsorship lol. But you never know.
Old news now but I like documenting progress in this thread…
T-raceglobal.com top spot in the 1 lap and 3 lap leaderboards!! I’m so stoked to achieve this feat and definitely worked hard for it!!
So onto the next challenge of the Intro 2 Speed Chicago circuit designed by @Mbrady. I’ve had two and a half sessions on this track now and made it into the top 5 but some way off the pace still! I think my top 5 spot was already beaten recently but i took a screenshot while I held the spot.
I’m maxing out down the straight so I’ve changed my gearing tonight to get me another few kph. It’s a gamble as I’ll lose some torque but we’ll see if it helps with lap times
.
The last thing I’m going to try as well on next outing is to run my Hoyt Puck remote in reverse to hopefully get a bit more juice off the line by removing the inbuilt throttle curve.
Next session will be interesting and I suspect the new settings will take a bit of time to adjust to, as I was feeling quite ‘as one’ with my board previously.
Siiick and congrats! Definitely a lot of hard work. I think I’ve done versions of that Chicago track, super fun one.
Got a race with ERL at this track on Sunday. I’m very nervous as it’s the first time on a long track with capable speeds well above 40mph/64kph.
The main straight is 140m so I’ll easily be capable hitting my geared top speed of 71kph but never gone that fast. 67kph is my max to date that i reached the other night doing the 0-40mph challenge.
I’ll also be racing against the world record holder Rayne Kent on his 4wd Raith board so he’ll have a huge top speed advantage. I’m hopeful I’ll have significant cornering speed advantage otherwise I’ve got no chance haha. Regardless, it should be a fun outing.
