It’s a new Foccer and a new day!!!
I was so super bummed last weekend when Drew’s Onewheel died…
It was such a downer, and I had poured time into it, he had poured money into it. Was really missing his board… yada yada.
It sucked.
However, getting it fixed this weekend and then seeing how stoked he is on it, is awesome.
And it’s way more awesome than it sucked!!!
He came over this morning and we went on an 11 mile ride. It not only work, but it performed well the whole ride.
So it all worked out in the end.
Huge shout out to Mario @TheBoardGarage for this super throrough walk through, that got us to the point of having a running board.
We took a family ride to a little pop up downtown.
It’s pretty cool to take PEVs to get somewhere, and take a tiny PEV to deploy there to play.
And would you look at that!!!
I even ran into Drew out and about on his shinny new VESC.
So here we have Lil Foccer cousins.
Those Varials look excellent. Nicely done, glad it’s working out.
This past week I got to make an upgrade I have been wanting for a long time.
Bigger pads for the Pint X, or the PXVX…
The Pint goes back to November 2021…
Wow, close to 2 years Onewheeling.
And the day I got it, I put a Kush wide in the back, but had to live with the tiny footpad upfront.
Now, kinda of like the Dinghy, there was something cool about the tiny standing platform.
But I always pondered what more space for your feet would look like.
So here come the Halo Pads from Tech Rails
.
So much more real estate up front!!!
I got the 2mm padded grip tape.
If I had to do it again, I would get the 4mm.
Because the Halos, sure are hard.
Heavy, and hard, but totally worth it to me!!!
As an added bonus, I can. Now see some light up front from the Lil Foccer.
I’m so desperate to get my hands on a Onewheel, especially from following your posts.
Having ridden a few peoples XRs and GTs, i definitely prefer the XR and I imagine the pint just wouldn’t feel powerful enough and too small…if only it was as cheap and easy enough to buy an XR as it is for a decent spec ESK8.
On a side note I came across this just now while researching DIY onewheels…
Perfect for street, maybe the next big thing is THANEWHEEL RACING
The Onewheels are such a different beast.
But it’s so cool to me.
I think the Pint X is pretty dang close to the Power of the XR. But I do think the XR is a great size to stand on.
I drool over the Fungineer parts almost every day…
The little dude demanded we fix one of my skateboards this morning…
He insisted on it until I got him up there.
I do need to take the NewBee drives apart, and should be getting motor mounts soon.
I also took down the air conditioner!!!
Which is bittersweet.
It means it’s amazingly nice these days, but soon the cold will arrive.
More issues with them?
I’ll be taking apart my second set again too this weekend. Squeaks and creaks keep coming back.
Just benched my first set as I discovered a mis-pressed bearing on the wheel gear.
Well.
I had 3 sets running.
The 1st one on the Gravel Flux is still running solid.
It may have started clicking a little bit. This has seen a lot of miles.
The 2nd one on the Flux is running well. Not a ton of miles I don’t think.
This one I am benching is the 3rd set that was on the Gravel Boi.
And it’s the set I kinda of destroyed running in extreme rain.
Water got in there and the bearings seazed up.
Ean sent me a full set of replacement bearings on his dime which was really considerate.
So I rebuilt the 3rd set.
It ran ok for maybe 1 ride.
Then it started clicking…
I took it apart. Saw nothing obvious.
So I rebuilt it again…
Still clicking and that side stops way faster from a free roll.
So I decided to say screw it!!! Off it goes.
And I got a Chain drive From Facko, and Radium mounts.
I think gear drives are awesome!!!
until you have to service them, and put them back together, and they never work right again.
So I question if they are really for me.
I am sure someone that is more patient and meticulous could do a better job at taking them apart, cleaning, and reassembling.
But I am not that guy…
I do hope the other 2 that are running keep going for a while, but I also Hope this larger chain drive will be a robust solution for an “All Weather” board.
Me too. I really like them when they are working perfectly. Silent and smooth.
That said I might go back to belts and pick up some Radium mounts.
Yeah.
Newly set up and working well, they are by far the best drive train experience I have ever had.
Definitely interested in this subject. I need to install a different GD on my Flux so that I have better clearance for larger motors.
My Moon GDs don’t allow for anything larger than 6374, otherwise they interfere with the matrix II baseplate.
Trying to decide between BN straight cuts or Newbee 4gs.
Would like to try the Newbee option, just because I’d like something more quiet than my Moon straight cut drives.
Definitely curious to see how these NewBee drives work for your boards.
Personally I would take NewBee over BN all day every day.
Not having to set up backlash alone is a big deal to me.
My BN drives on the Gravel Flux also worked really well for a long time…
Untill they didn’t, and trying to fix them proved to be a waste of time and money.
But the NewBee were way nicer to set up, and the quiet is remarkable.
Dress for the slide!!!
I second this. I have used both BN and Newbee 4GS. Now running two sets of Newbee drives because I prefer the quiet operation and smoothness.
I had PT today.
It’s fun trying to decide what to take there.
Today’s choice was the Omakase.
There are freshies around the stadium I needed to get to!!!
And there is nothing better than Akashas on new blacktop.
I love pneumatics for all kinds of reasons, and they get way more action overall.
But gliding on mega freshies on these buttery wheels is so magical to me.
This here is the one hill in town i am scared to go down.
I can go up it easily… but I am not sure I trust any electric brakes for going down…
I really wish I still had power slides on my regular skateboard.
That would be epic here…
Taking the long way back was sweet, and I even ran into a kid with a Onewheel who has 3 esk8s!!! So even met someone to ride with!!!
Stoked.
