My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

And let’s do some tinkering…
Let’s get the Llama opened up for the white Z-mote.

Red will go on the Rally Cat. And orange on the Omakase.

It’s funny how things grow legs.

let’s put the Z-mote In the Llama sounds like:
Opening the enclosure and swapping the receiver.

Easy breezy.

What it really is:
Pry open the enclosure after fighting with butyl tape.
Redo the gasketing.
Redo the effing butyl.
Fix the insert that came off.
Add a power button because I think they are cool now.
Swap the receiver.
Tape everything down.
Get the old laptop top out to install 5.1 instead of 23.64…

Button it all back up…

I love DIY.

What power button are you running? Flipsky?

Here I am just using the built in switch on the Xenith.
All I added was the momentary button, which happens to not be the regular Unity one, but a slightly bigger one that came with my Flux enclosure.

I was running a lot of my boards without power buttons and just using roll to start… And I getting back into adding power buttons… If there is room and it’s not a real all terrain board.

I do have the Flipsky Smart anti spark running on the Littles and it has been good.

I did a few things I had not done before with gasket.

I used clamps to compress it and really stick as I applied it because I saw Al doing it the other day.

But I also sanded the edge of the enclosure along with the neoprene foam to get it to blend a bit better.
Just very lightly and then hit it with a sharpie.

And it turned out pretty good.

I had also laid butyl tape down on the deck but didn’t get any pictures…

I do feel good about the seal on this enclosure.

Since I had the Llama on the Bench I decided to take a peek inside of the BN M1 drives.

Everything is looking pretty good in there.

There is a little bit of rubbing happening on both sides.
And the left side has a tiny bit of metal shavings.
But I don’t think its anything to worry about.

I cleaned up a bit.
Slapped some Redntacky in there and bolted it back together.

I will make sure to keep the axle nut tight to minimize play.

Riding for 8 miles in the rain when it’s 38 degrees out really makes you feel alive!!!

It’s still a trip to me that I will gear up and head out when it’s like that.

But it was super fun.

Definitely a slow ride. But such a neat sensation.

Very invigorating!!!

Oh hey look.
It’s midnight.
And the Llama is open again…
I had hung it up on the wall
And was sitting on the couch and remembered I didn’t run detection after closing it up…

And it looked funky.

Getting old sucks dude. I specifically picked up longboards a few years because I was done jumping. Also my knees hated me.

Now I esk8 and my whole body hates me.

I feel this dude…
I am really trying to move more and need to start getting serious about fitness and mobility…

Having a multitude of boards that constantly need fixing/upgrading/testing also helps a bit with this :joy:

This is cool to me.

I had a Doctor’s appointment this morning.
And I took the Rally Cat to go to it.

It’s cold this morning right around freezing. But it was not bad.

It was only 1.8 miles and 10 minutes to get in the door of the building.

I think that even a year ago I would have driven there…
And I am fairly certain that driving and parking and walking to the building would have taken me longer than the 10 minutes on esk8.

And off Course I meandered a bit and took the long way home to enjoy the ride.

As per usual with the Rally Cat the drive picked up some rocks along the way…

I respect the dedication . Do you pull that gaiter over your mouth or ride like that? My face is freezing behind my googles and full face so I cant imagine a half-shell in that weather.

I did part of the time.
But I was on weird vibes like taking a polar plunge type thing so I was kinda taking it all in.

On really cold days this winter I rocked my TSG and managed to get a thin balaclava under it and it was quite good protection.

Is you fullface enclosed or open?

But I really made a big jump in tolerance and gear this winter and managed to get out in conditions I really didn’t bother with before.

It’s an open MTB helmet but I have goggles on that cover down to below my nose and I put some black duct tape on the inside of the big vent on the inside of the chin bar, and some tape on the other vents, it basically completely stops all airflow through the helmet and keeps it way warmer. The chin bar and the goggles keep the wind off my face so it’s not bad down to like 45, it never gets much colder in this area than that during the day.

Here is what you need for colder days dude

This is a bummer.
I got the Leatt impact shortsn to try out.
Both the 4.0 and the 5.0

I am currently using a 35 Dollar pair from Amazon. And I was hoping to find something nicer.

The construction of the Leatt is obviously super nice and the padding looks great.
Like exactly what I was looking for in my head.

But Leatt has no coverage on the Butt…
Like totally lacking…
I know for a fact these would have done anything for me in the past couple falls I had on my butt.

So I guess I’ll keep looking.
