My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Me too. But I only run 6’s so I need more tire options.

The new Gravel boi will be sweet. I love that blue deck - I almost bought it from Tomiboi when I got my black one for my Hercaleez board but since I’m heavier I opted for the extra bottom layer of carbon. That blue looks so nice though.

Well…
This feels a little weird. And it’s totally unexpected.

But I am not ordering the Orangutan 105s today.

That 150 is no joke…

I don’t have an immediate need for them…

i have no desire for them as i still have another set of boosted 105s and hollow wheels. I also don’t have a board to put them on.

Yeah dude.
I only have 2 set ups these could maybe go on.

The Llama or the DKP Demonseed.

And I would be shocked if I ended up liking these better than the MAD 101s on the Llama.

Now that I have experienced that grip it may be hard for another thane wheel to take the throne…

What will go on the Demonseed is up in the air.
The Precision DKP trucks are quite a bit taller than the Evolve trucks.

So I hope I can run little wheels still mounted Drop through. But I may have to go to caguamas.

Well dude…

The return of the Gravel Flux was an epic triumph!!!

I just went and did 20 miles at lunch.

It got to be about 42 degrees and it was sunny and felt pretty decent.

My mind is blown by these gears.
I seriously got a little emotional out there riding.

My initial reaction is that I immediately want to buy 3 more sets for all the boards with tires…

I realize that it is a bit premature to say. And I am not going to go buy them tonight.

But man. I super hope I don’t break these.

It was just a great ride .
The board just felt super smooth.
The quiet of the drive is insane.
These Flipsky motors are pretty quiet. and the drives make like no noise.
It’s really crazy…

It was also my first time out on Green and white Riptide Bushings.
And after a few blocks I stopped and added some more preload.
I might me at 1-1.5mm both front and back now.
And the bushings are also feeling good.
I have to do a little bit more getting used to them. But I expect I will stick with these colors.

The tires where feeling great and just the overall riding sensation was super smooth and fluid and I could not be more stoked.

Here are a couple crappy cell videos trying to capture the quiet of the gears…

The Gravel Flux did just fine as the tow truck.

I am glad to have it back…
I am way more comfortable/confident riding on here than on the Haero

After work I rode the GT around the neighborhood and ended up doing 6.6 miles.

So all together today I stacked 30 miles and damnit that feels good.

For both school pick up and on the GT I wore the Etnies winterized skate shoes.

And comfort and board feel wise they did pretty good.
They are a good deal bulkier on the sides than the Accels. But nothing horrible. Sole feel is pretty decent.
So I think I’ll get used to them.

Tomorrow will be brutally cold and I expect there will be no riding…

But today was awesome!!!

I would be lying if I said I didn’t like these onsra tkp trucks.

Ok price too…

Here we are.
Day off.

Colder than hell.
Not going anywhere.

Let’s tinker.
Gonna undo the Haero and get into the Box.

Fun to get into the rats nest …

Tight in there.
If I want to route the wires under it will be pretty tricky.

I am super proud of myself for adding the gorilla tape handle to the battery. Clever shit.

So there lies the Haero.

And there goes the Haero…

I think it’s all here now…

Just need to slap some parts together!

Yeah that tape grab handle definitely seems very handy.

How do you compare BN drives to 4GS? What gear ratios did you have on each?

Yep.
So I spent most of the day in the garage.
And sure enough I got to a point I could ride this thing.

I decided to put the trucks on the outer mounting holes.

I wonder if anyone uses the inner ones…
I don’t need the bottom clearance so outer seems to be the way to go.

I did not know about this, but I had to flip the orientation of the matrix II axles for the BN drives to be at the right angle.

Right as I was about to put the BN drives together I remember this was sitting on my porch.

I also noticed that my loose keyway had made a dimple on the BN drive housing… How wild is that.

This Tomiboi deck has 30 30 Angles.

So I am using angled risers in the back. I started with 10 degree printed one’s(2x5s) and it looked sketchy to me. Just probably because they are blue…
So I went with the Paris 7 degree riser I am also using on the Flux.
It’s also sketchy looking… But it’s probably fine…

The BN drives on Matrix II are a really good fit with the Tomiboi Hubbas. They butt right up to the wheel adapter.

The Gravel Boi gets a Z.Mote and it’s the yellow one.

The enclosure and wiring situation is just temporary and TBD…

So I used double sided tape on the bottom and a zip tie around…

Got it packed tight again…

Then I closed it up and added a couple strips of vicious and it’s where it’s gonna be for now…

I will do some stuff to pretty it up.
But I can ride it. And I am excited to see what it feels like.

4.6 on BN and 5 on the 4GS.

Well dude. it’s tough to make a fair comparison because I have not had a chance to break the 4GS yet.

But not having to do a backlash is super nice.
And the quiet and smoothness on the 20 whole miles I have on the 4GS blew my mind.
