My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

I was thinking of breaking out the dreaded adhesive shrink wrap…

Thanks dude.
It keeps my mind occupied and my body moving.
And these days since I managed to sprinkle a little parenting in there it has been working out really well!!!

It amazes me how you sell all your boards!:grinning:
Wheeling and dealing…

@dskate something to ponder here Dallas.

Yeah this is probably it.

I like to clamp the wire to the deck or truck bolt or something just a few centimeters after the connector with a plastic P-clamp and nothing bad seems to happen. Doesn’t ever wiggle loose.

Ziptie the two halves together. Works great.

I agree that does work great, unless one of them goes through the enclosure.

I’ve also used twine before and tied them together.

Good news.
The Rayne Crush lives on.

Motor detection ran ok, and it sounds fine on the bench.

I did a touch of hot glue because I aspire to be a bukakke master like Al.
And regular heat shrink- didn’t have adhesive the right size…
And zip ties on both ends.

It’s a bit busy down there… But shouldn’t go anywhere…

It’s 32 degrees.
So today’s lunch break ride is the Pint X in the garage…

In the spirit of riding everything the Wowgo came down down for a spin in the garage.

And I did infact ride over 1 mile on the Pint just going in circles…

So really last night I liked the evolve 7s on the Flux enough that I decided to put some on the Kaly Hellcat wides.

Thanks Val @12sV for the hook up on the tires.
They have found their new home.

Again I think they ran smoother than my Kendas that do have a bit of a vibration here and there.

If there is a decrease in comfort it was not obvious to me last night.

And the added torque was cool.

I was running 16/72 on the 200s.
And if you recall I tried and failed at 15/72 recently…
So I was kinda chasing more torque.

I don’t know how the evolves will compare to the Kendas on durability.
But they are reasonably priced at 15 bucks and usually available.

I have totally enjoyed them on the Khymera.

I really wonder what this does to range…

Side by side they look quite different to me…

Looks like I am going from 190 mm to about 172mm

It was a trully epic battle once again to get tires on the Kaly Hellcat wides…

Wow. Like hours…

Here they are next to @tomiboi Hubba Hubba.

With my little luggage scale (sus)
I got 2.4 lbs for the Hellcats with wheels.
And 1.9 for the Hubbas.
So an added 1.6 lbs for the chunky ass Hellcats…

But after trying, and trying I got all the tires mounted.

And I do love the look of the Flux with the 7s…

Now I need a nice day to go out and ride it!

I’ve always been a fan of the evolve 7s :ok_hand:

They look like they spin pretty true.

Ok. So I got out a little bit today.
Did 6.5 miles on the Flux around the neighborhood.

Mayden Voyage of the Evolve 7 inch tires on the Hellcat wides.

I still think I am on to something here…

I had newer tires at a higher psi on the Hellcats so the ride did feel a bit harder.

I super love the look.

I have to try something out now to figure out. I wonder if the nylon Hubbas may run smoother than the heavy aluminum Hellcats?

I have to try them with the same tires at the same PSI… but I might end up with Hubbas on the Flux.

Definitely keeping the 7s on for now. That is making me happy.

It was sunny and 45 today.
And went out pretty well geared up.
It still got to be a bummer after 5 miles.

I think this week is going to be rough for riding…

But I am sure glad I got out and got some action today!!!

On my setup I found the Hubbas need balancing when compared to the aluminum GT3s. So, I’d double check that

I can’t speak to the hubbas but I have the GT3s on right now. they needed 10 grams opposite the valve and are now perfect up to the limit of my board around 54mph. In my experience tires have more of an impact than wheels.

That makes sense I just noticed on the bench at full throttle I saw a lot of wobbling. Moved the same set over to the GT3s and they were gone. But I guess a more sure fire test would be to do the same thing but just the hubs

Niceeee

Okay okay.

Let’s see if I can go over the Rayne Crush.

This actually got done on October 27th.
I’m am just slacking here.

The heart and soul of the build actually showed up back on July 22nd.
The coveted Loaded Unlimited Hub motors.

I can basically 100% blame this build on Justin @Venom121212 for making the world aware of the deals on the motors…
I always wanted these and could never deal with the regular price.

But now here we are.

At the time this for finished it was board number 12…

I know… It’s ridiculous. I wasn’t planning on it…
Now a couple are on the bench anyways so we are down to 10…

But What came out these parts is really special to me and I am super stoked on it.

This is so close to feeling like an analog longboard.
The vibe is magical.
The free roll is magical.
And you guys already know Blue Caguamas are Magical.

So what is in here:

Rayne Crush Soft Flex (the first one I bought)
Paris V2 50s 180mm with Riptide Bushings.
Blue Caguamas up front.
And making the electrics is.
A tiny itsy bitsy 12S1P P42A pack.
Unity on 5.3. with a Mini Remote.
And the Loaded Unlimited Hubs with Blue Sleeves.
And repurposed Beastboard enclosure…

The battery was made by @JoeyZ5 and it’s super cute.

I wrapped it up like a meth head to make it my own and proceed to make a little pod thing with the battery and Unity and Mini receiver.

The enclosure is a bit of a funny story.
When Beastboard came out I looked at their website and saw this enclosure for like 10 bucks shipped… And I got it and have had it laying around…

I cut it up and added some plastic bonder and truck bed liner and I could not be happier…

I decided to add a power button to this build because I think power buttons are cool now…

It’s gotta be the most unecesary one I have added because it turns on with a barely turning the wheels…
Oh well.

I also did the thing where I shrink wrapped the pod and taped the pod to the deck…

It runs pretty good.
But I need to mess with the Vesc settings.

Detection came up at 29 amps per motor.

I ran at 55 -55 and battery at 15 -15
I need to sort out what is really ideal for my little pack.

And I need to know what other people are running these motors at.
Unsensored is ok.
I tried half-ass HFI and it was a no go.

I wonder how many poles these motors are to add that to the motor detection.
The top speed I get on the app is like 50mph…

I real life in think I have hit 22.

On Flat the board does well especially if I am already moving.

Hills it is a struggle.

And I only get 5 miles of range.

But those 5 miles are really epic.

The Dinghy and the ATV Ditch Life really resemble regular skateboards with their single drives and free roll.

But this board…
Man.
You forget it’s electric.
You let go is the throttle on a slight downhill and it it’s such a buttery feeling.

The wheels are great especially since I just roll up the block to the Freshies

I already had a scare of breaking the board… And already made an upgrade…

The Blue Paris trucks I had around a long time…
They were not it …
So I had to get these green ones…
Critical infrastructure…

Makes me happy…

Oddly enough this is not the lightest board.
But it probably has the least range and it has to be close to the Wowgo for limited power.
And yet it is such a jewel.
It is a real joy to ride.
I love holding it.
And I love looking at it.

Stoked.

The Kaly’s have always felt pretty good.
And I think they are so beefy they have never needed balancing.

When I went out today I f felt a bit of a vibration similar to what I have going with the Kenda’s…

I feel like that wasn’t there when I ran the Hubbas the other night…
But I do plan on experimenting more. When the weather permits…

This whole thread is like the opposite of that my dude
