My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

What battery do you have in the Flux?

It is a 12S9P made with BAK-N21700CG cells.
So it is 45AH. but I only have it set to pull 70 amps total from the battery.
From my ride the other day it looks like I will only be getting 35 miles out of it…

Geez that’s pretty shitty range for a battery that big.

Yeah, I had dreamed of getting a comfortable 40 miles. Makes me wish I had built the pack with P42As instead…

It was my first time really draining it…
and maybe the messed up pulleys caused higher consumption…

or maybe the cells suck.

I did get 31 miles once with the 12s10P 30Q that was only 30AH… so does not seem right.

Ýeah dude, i would expect more than 35 for sure.

How fast do you ride? Here’s a ride log of my 12s8p tm3 cell (super similar cell performance to the BAK cells)
Ended right around 50% battery

im a solid phat 215lb fully loaded

I really don’t know for sure dude.

I don’t have any data logger mabobbers.

I don’t think of myself as going super fast all the time. I Expect I get to 35 a couple times.
and there is a lot of starting and stopping, since I go around campus and neighborhoods.

But I don’t think I am super sending it.

I am running 23.64 so I can;t even get accurate WH/Mile. but that 27 you show there is dreamy to me.
I think when I did have that info, I was usually in the low 40s.

Best I can do is the relive data… Which is yoi know whatever…

I sure did not hit 40 miles…

Get a metr or something. So worth it. I may have one lying around if you’re interested.

Well.
I fight that idea internally…
I don’t want to obsess about the data.

And I am afraid I probably would.

I can definitely see the good side of having something like it.

But I also tell myself it’s something else to buy.
It’s something else to break…
It’s something else to break other stuff…

And I want to worry less about how fast I might be going and just go ride and enjoy the feeling.

Then you go thru the rabbit hole of retro activity having to to put one into each board :joy:

That is both good and bad. I like to tinker.
But I like to tinker on the fun stuff I wanna do.

And I am about to open up a few more boards when I get my new remotes.

So I’d end up having to do it twice…

So for my lunch break I took out the Llama.

And it feels like it has really been a minute since I last rode it.
Last time I went to take it out it was also a lunch break and the power switch on the Mini remote had crapped out and I did not get out on it.
That may have been the drop that started rbr the Z-mote craze…

I also keep meaning to try the MAD wheels on the Llama and it is odd how time passes and other stuff comes up.

But the fact is that I really look more to the street carvers when I think about riding.

There is definitely a more dangerous vibe going with the thane boards. Especially this one since it’s actually fast and powerful.

I definitely don’t want to ride thane at night time anymore.

But today was great.
I did 16.3 miles. Which is about all I can get out of this 12s4p 40T Pack. Ended up at 41.5 volts. I was only at 49.5 starting…

While chasing freshies in my favorite neighborhood I found a tiny block of super fresh freshies.
And the 110s really shine in all their glory.

I am charging it back up so maybe it gets another go later with the MAD wheels on.

Dude don’t remind me :joy:

I on build 6 I think and need to open up like 2 other boards to inspect something

So I think I need to try some Phatties on the Flux.

That seems like a necessary part of esk8 culture right…

So the easiest to roll start probably tops out around

  • 40km/h { 25mph } 31752 erpm loaded

and the most difficult to roll start probably tops out around

  • 51km/h { 31.5mph } 43092 erpm.

I don’t know what that means, but it’s interesting

It’s on

Let’s give these MAD wheels a go on the Llama

Welp.
If the little dude lets me…

MADness.

I can go ahead and say the TB 110s are going on the shelf.

And the MAD 101s will be staying on the Llama.

I did 11 miles around the neighborhood on my lunch break.
I didn’t venture far because rain was coming and it did cut my ride short.

I am not saying the MAD wheels are better than the 110s.
That is too hard to say.
They both shine in ways, and are certainly quite different in my opinion.

But for the Llama the MADs were the winner…

I might glide around on the 110s here and there, since it’s super easy to change the wheels with the BN drives.

But for now it’s MADness time.

The board ends up a bit lighter.

The board ends up a bit lower.

I am getting more torque so now it’s super punchy.
Got lucky there, since it’s not easy to change gearing with the BN drives…

The MADs also do way better on the old chip and seal. Which I have around my neighborhood and all around town.
It’s a non issue with pneumatics. But it’s tricky on thane.
the MADs do a great job on it both as far as grip and dampening.

On freshies I do notice the harmonics still.
It is just something that is there and it is different and it is not really an issue.
And at speed it goes away.
And on the Llama they felt really smooth and connected on the freshies.

This is a sweet side of DIY.
When you change something and it works out right.

I expect I might be giving the Llama a bit more action here soon to enjoy that extra torque and the added confidence with the grip of the MADs.

Pretty stoked dudes!!!

I explored a pretty awesome loop hole today.

I managed to get dinner, parent, and ride in one swoop…

My wife was out with the older 2.
So I have to mind the little dude.
And there are no set dinner plans.

So I decided to take the Gravel Flux to tow the trailer to go get take out.
The place is 1.7 miles away and a 5 minute drive.

The trip all together took 1:15 and I wandered for 9.5 miles.

Fall colors are popping.

The little dude was really engaged on this ride sitting up feeling it the whole time.

We went to pick up Italian.
And took up a whole parking space.

Little dude brought his tiny skateboard to ride around and “do tricks”

It sprinkled on the way back and with the gravel Flux that is a non issue.

With the 5.5 mile GT ride this morning

And the 3.5 mile school pick up I am at 29 miles today.

I have been riding a ton this past week.

All the boards are in good shape and the weather is super nice

I am stoked to be doing that right.
My knees are totally feeling it today.
No night ride tonight.
