My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Lunch break ride on the Gravel Flux.

It’s that time of year that this board is going to really start to shine.

This and the Almost a Flux.

Both should be pretty waterproof.

Both have gnarly knobby tires to navigate paths covered in wet leaves.

It was so cool in the path today. I got to see two vultures flying up the creek. Big boys!!!

Towards the way home there is an apartment complex that has a little gravel trail that runs behind it.

Hit meanders by the woods and it’s really nice to slip and slide on

You get a good sense of the slick mess the paths can be around this time of year!!!

Dude, it looks like you’ve got so many esk8 paths out there.

How is it overall where you live — is it really as adventurous as it looks? I’m honestly so jealous of some of the areas I have seen you ride in. I might have to move out that way one day.

You can’t believe social media… right.

I do however think I’m super lucky as far as variety to ride just outside my house.

It’s rare that I put a board in the van to go ride somewhere.

But I have a few things going.

Columbia is a college town with about 130k people. I think there is something magical about the all American college town for liveability.

Campus

I’m only about a mile and a half from the University campus. And it’s like 35 thousand kids so it’s a pretty expansive area. And it’s a botanical garden.

Hills

I live kinda of on top of a hill. So I experience a lot of gravity boarding.

Not San Francisco… but not flat like Florida or Phoenix. I expect the hills make it all way more fun.

The Gravel Trails

I’m only a couple miles away from tapping into the Gravel trails that roll through town typically at creek bottoms. These are really cool and really pretty.

Two skateparks

And the pump track.

So there is tons of good stuff…

Off course there is not so good…

Such as the weather… the extremes suck. Summer is hot as balls and winter is hard.

It felt really cold riding around low 40s yesterday.

And it’s kind of an esk8 island… I have literally 1 dude I have ridden electric skateboards with regularly…

There are a few Onewheel guys and a couple really active EUC kids.

But I would be stoked on more esk8 buddies.

I definitely feel lucky about the places I have to ride and access to stores and places to eat by riding.

I have even pondered getting rid of one of the two cars, but we got too many damn kids… and it’s cold outside….

For sure, man — grass is always greener.

I totally get what you mean about living near a college campus. I spent a couple years down in Utah County near BYU/UVU, and yeah… that whole area has its own vibe for sure.

Your gravel trails are honestly what get me the most jealous. I’ve got plenty of room to explore the off-road areas out here in Eagle Mountain now, but it’s not that pretty single-track you’ve got. It’s more like desert moto trails.

What I really want is brand-new paved bike paths. We’ve got this huge trail system along a river out here, but so much of it is cracked and rough. That’s how I end up breaking all my stuff.

Yep. It’s cold. It’s hard times for riding.

Wednesday was the first day the cold felt like it was cutting you. It’s was clear blue skies. When the cloud cover went so did the warmth…

I had an impromptu ride to go look for the dogs that ran away.

This is the back of my house.

A neighbor had wrangled the dogs and called my wife.

So I went for a little stroll around the neighborhood…

Thanksgiving was in fact very cold.

I did not get a pre or post turkey ride in.

i did ride the Onewheel up the street to let my neighbors dogs out.

Winter has been doing it’s thing…

It’s cold outside.

It’s cold in the garage.

My back hurts…

No tinkering and nearly no riding…

The GT is inside the house and is getting jumped on regularly.

That gives me a slight fix.

It works out it’s always on.

I had moved my office upstairs a while back, but finally got around to hanging up the OG 4 esk8 decks.

It’s snowed here yesterday, An ideal 2-3 inches of powdery snow.

I could not get excited about it yesterday to bundle up… and go outside, and get dirty and all that…

Today I got motivated by @jack.luis and @Evwan pictures and decided to bundle up.

The roads and hard surfaces were mostly clear.

But the grass had some snow for me to do some slippies around.

I was having the time of my life doing circles in the grass chilling, totally achieving flow state…

But it got cut short by my remote dying… I had one of the Dumbos with a 1SP and it did not like the cold.

So I had to have my wife come get me.

@dimos15 one more time I could have used a working version of your remote app…

Need dual drive and need amps!!!

Still stoked I got out.

The top of the board was caked with a bit of snow.

The back wheels had some snow between the hubs and drives.

I really hope I don’t kill any drives or Unitys riding around this winter…

A curious thing about today is the bottom of the board stayed totally dry…

I need to finish the app before you get stranded on an island or something :joy:

Winter continues to winter.

Yesterday for lunch I decided to walk instead of ride…

It was not super cold out, but the messy aspect of it makes it harder decision to make.

So I put 1 ft in front of the other like a caveman…

I took a side track into the woods and actually saw some trails I want to try with the mountain board.

The flat parts should be fun.

Some up and down portions I will be dragging the board for sure

Today I’m putting studs on the 9 inch Trampa Mudpluggers to go back to that trail.
