My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

I sprinkled/sprayed on the pivot cup and on the bushings where they make contact.

The Llama turned out way better with the narrow hubs for the 6 inch Novas.

It’s still a much rougher ride than the 200x50 CSTs…

Yesterday I got rolled around in front of the house riding switch stance.

It is such an interesting challenge.

I like to do it quite a bit on the Onewheels.

But it’s much harder for me on esk8…

The Matrix III Singularity set up is so easy to turn that it has made this viable and fun.

I’m taking the little dude out of school early to go to the skatepark.

It has been a minute!!!

Oh yeah baby.
Good times had at the skatepark!!!:metal::metal::metal::metal:

It really seems like such a long time since we last went… But it can’t be before winter…

When we got there we had it all to ourselves.

First I rolled around on the Nicky and I did pretty well.

I even filmed a little line!!!
Look @fessyfoo

Then I got on the MAD LaCroix set up and it was such fun.

I love this board so much!!!

I did have a good fall…
I was trying to roll up a quarter pipe which I had already done… But the Matrix III got hung up and I just dropped on my side…

Pretty hard
My little padded jacket totally helped. I just kind of fell straight down… But my elbow and shoulder hit on the pads!!!

I was getting pretty frisky I suppose, so it’s not . shocker I fell.

But falling really sucks… I need to not do that.
Be less frisky…

It was my first time trying the Onewheels with the new Vesc Bowl Tube.

It’s so different. And a huge improvement for the skatepark.

I wish I was better at onewheeling… It’s definitely the ride I’m least good at.

I suppose more riding could fix that. But most everything feel better with a throttle for me.

Really loving the four wheels these days.

The little dude is killing it.

He rode the Onewheel probably the most. Or as much as his bike .
And he rolled on his little esk8 and his scooter.

My buddy Drew came over with his GTS and had a great time at the park too!!!

This was really a ton of fun to ride around the park.

I really want to get some better carves through the half bowl,…

that electric accel through bowl pockets looked pretty cool.
50/50 on an esk8 is awesome.

It’s my favorite part.
And now I have goal to make a really clean pass close to the coping with both boards.

I got some work to do!!!

April 18 was Good Friday 2025.

And it was a good day for Esk8.

The UPS dude came earlier and brought mega goodies.

First up is this sweet sweet deck made my Dave Psychotiller.
This is the West Coast Standard Box Turtle.

So I have a Khymera, 2 Llamas, and now this beauty . Thanks a bunch @Dizzie
Thanks @dskate for tipping me off.

Next up is something really, really special.
I have not unboxed an Esk8 since my Wowgo 2S way back in 2017.

Wow.
Just wow!!!

This is so clean, and beautiful. @monsterbuilder

Luckily it was sunny, and I had time, so after charging a little bit I headed out on my mayden voyage on the IonDrive V1 #3

This figure 8 is the only part of my neighborhood that still has decent pavement.

Ever since they layed chip and seal all over the neighborhood, there was a serious decline in urethane wheel riding…

And I do feel a little sketchy riding them.

Especially since these were not MAD wheels.

The Zoobombs felt good. And gripped well.
But I could not let go of the concern of breaking traction…

The Zoobombs were a smidge of an obstacle to really letting loose.

The other hang up was using the VX1 remote, with a thumb wheel instead of my usual trigger remotes.

I did ok mostly. But I can’t live with the thumb wheel remote for good.
I think at some point I would do the wrong thing…
.

But this mayden voyage was great, and I didn’t lose traction, or send myself flying with the weird remote.

The V1 is a delight.
It’s super low.
I really like the Hummie Deck.
The trucks were fun to carve on, and felt solid when I pushed speed.

And the wheels just rolled and rolled and rolled.

The drive train was so smooth and quiet.
I have never set up a belt drive as well, and Josh did here.

Heck yeah… I’ve been dying to hear your first impressions. So glad you like the board. Seems like it really fits your riding ethos more than anyone else I know.

I 100% would have gone with the MAD wheels if they were an option when I was spec’ing out the board. Are you going to stick with the Zoobombs or switch them out?

This comment made me laugh. Thanks man. I’m super happy with how the drives ended up. You’ll probably never break a belt with the way the way they are set up. But if you do for some weird reason… you can take advantage of the tooless belt change feature!

I’m dying to try the Akashas on here.
I think that is first.

I want to enjoy the light weight and low profile with small wheels.

Fuuuuuuck!!!

Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck.

It’s beautiful spring time out there…

And I get hit with a bout of Plantar Fasciitis…

Fuuuuuuck.

So. Yep.
Need to take it easy…

oofff… Having had surgery for it less than a year ago… I understand your pain… literally. It kept me from riding all of last year…

Dang. You had to go all the way huh?!?

Yeah… Was suffering for years and didnt realize until it got that bad… I didnt have scar tissue build up but i had the surgery to release the fascia. Only time it feels sore is if i dont get much sleep… but i use special orthotics and foot feels fine.

After using them almost always for a few years I am giving up on my Leatt Dual Axis.

My old set had the elastic wear out.
So I bought a new set and that stayed on okay.

But when Jeremy @Soflo came through I got to try his knee pads.

And they are really nice.

These Oneal Knee guards

They look to me like they would offer the same protection.

They’re about 60% of the weight.

They are aseasy to put on.

But were there winning is that they stay in place way better than the Leatts.

Onto more new safety gear.

I just got the new Onsra fingerless gloves.

They seem pretty nice.
The construction is nice.
I really like the puck placement.

They are probably going to feel hotter than my current daily ones.
The 1Protect.

And they are harder to take off.

My foot is feeling better on the Plantar Fasciitis front.

Not I’m going to go right across town better.

But I can walk around the house comfortably with the orthotics in…

So it feels a little less scary right now.

It is hard for me not to ride everyday though.
Fortunately today is raining so it doesn’t feel so weird…

I do have a ton of tinkering to do.

As I sit here I thought I’d list out the various projects I need to take on.

***Rebuild the Almost a Flux as a mountain board.
This is going to take some work because I want to also remove the bottom panel and replace one of the motors.

***Build the soon to land second LaCroix deck to have a dedicated Matrix III and Mad wheels set up.
This is a bunch of work…
Putting everything together, but a battery.
This should be fun!!!

***Put a new drive on the Box Turtle if @Evwan ever ships me the parts…
This is going to involve opening the box.
So it’s in fact a bunch of work.

These are all fun and kind of pressing.

Further down.
***Rebuild a battery for the Omakase.
It’s such a fun board. It needs to live on.

***Rebuild a battery for the Black Llama.
This has been in the world for over a year…
I need to just send it.

I wonder what I may be forgetting…

Just providing my 2 cents on the ONSRA Safety Gear. I have the full finger gloves and I love them. They have a double velcro staps which really protect my wrists. I also have the padded hoodie. It makes me look like a well built body builder, and it’s easy to put on and take off. So 2 thumbs-up on the ONSRA stuff.

I don’t have their hoodie… I did want the reflective one once upon a time…

But I have a few of the armored hoodie or shirt things and I really like them.

Easy to put on.

And have totally helped me.

It’s only hard here in the summer…
