My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

The new daily ride!

It’s about to be 8 years since I first set foot on the Metroboard.

It’s crazy to realize it has been that long now.
So many boards and so many miles…

I love riding and I love the tinkering.

But what I love the most now is the new daily ride!

Everyday Luca asks to go ride his little electric bike and we roll up to the school.

On a good day we will do it 2 or 3 times.

Ends up being about a 2 mile ride.

The little dude will just say out of the blue “I wanna go ride my bike” and we gear up and he leads the way there.

At the school he goes around the track and then does some circles on the flat pad.

The he stops, tells me he wants to go home and leads the way back.

I am basically exploding with joy the entire time…

And now it happens every day!

Thanks to an OG Focbox and some P42As…

Ok.

Spring time.

Tons of cool stuff happened.

Let’s see if I can catch up some.

First of all behold the Akashas Squad.

Running 76mm wheels on a mountain board for mega Street carving is an experience!!!

So trippy.
But once again.
As crazy as clearance is.
I wish everyone could ride some Akashas to feel the magic.

Spring rides are nice.
It has been super pleasant out.
Ideal weather for wearing the armored shirts…

.i have gotten way more used to the 3 links, and have really been enjoying the Llama, and I am stoked it’s quieter now with the chains.

Packing for vacation now means sharing space with the kids PEVs…

I built a little launch ramp…

You know.
After all, what could go wrong?!?

It’s tiny.

I can go over it fairly well on the EUC.

It’s much sketchier on the Onewheels, and I go really slow, so it’s not any kind or launch situation.

And I still have not managed to do it on the ATV Ditch Life…
I will get that.
Just need to feel spirited.

But I have to give a shout out to the EUC, and enabling me to do shit that is beyond my age/fitness level…

The EUC and that suspension has me out there going down stairs, doing little launch ramps, and riding trails.
And all that sure makes for a bigger playground.

This is what it’s all about. So excited for you to get to experience this.

I wanted to do a separate thread for this guy.

The Launch ramp got me yesterday…

I am playing such a weird game between trying to be careful because I’m old, and trying to do stuff to not feel so old…

Raising the GTVX the half inch makes it go up the launch ramp way easier.

I rolled over it a bunch of times yesterday waiting for a buddy to come over to go ride trails.

It’s fun, expect when I don’t commit and roll/step off the board, and my back leg gets twisted funny…

I did hurt my knee some, but still went and rode trails yesterday.

Today it’s pretty sore… So I will probably take the day off. Icing it as I type.

At 46 and continuing to refuse to really embrace fitness, I feel pretty out of shape, and I am perpetually sore…

Just in shape enough to kinda roll around and do little trails and jump the little launch ramp.

But it is when things don’t go just right that I worry more about the shape I am in…

I am just not very nimble, or quick to respond when things go wrong…

So kind like I did here. I just flop and drop…

Nonetheless we ride on!

Trails were gorgeous yesterday…
Kind of out of nowhere everything is green.

I took the kids to campus to go climb around and be dangerous.

I think in most similar parenting outings I bring one of the Onewheels to roll around while the kids play.

Today I brought the ATV Ditch Life because of it’s portability.

It was a good choice.
It’s so easy to mall grab and carry it around.

But it was also super fun to cruise around on the smooth campus sidewalks near where the kids were playing.

The middle boy jumped off something entirely too tall and hurt his foot.

So the board also worked as his transport the couple blocks back to the car.

It would have been tricky getting back with a Onewheel…

I think you need to call it “The FamBulance” from now on.

This morning I had to run an errand, which brings the opportunity to play PEV roulette…

What to take? What to take?

I had to run over to the hospital for a blood draw.
Only a couple miles away from the house.

Driving would be dumb… Parking sucks.

One consideration is that I had to wander around inside the hospital for a bit, so I had to carry whatever I took.

So that eliminates the Onewheels even though the ride there on them would be pleasant.

I could take the EUC, but that seemed like a bit much.

The big big boards are not great to carry inside places…

So the choice today has mostly to do with portability.

And these days the ATV Ditch Life wins…
Look at it. It’s tiny.

When I got there I took my gear off and crammed it in the back pack and then attached the board on there.

The full backpack with the heavy board kinda sucked to wear…

It was not too long before I took it back down and just mall grabbed it…

Which gave me the opportunity to push inside the long hallways…
Being able to do this definitely made the ATV Ditch Life the ideal choice.

I was to the door of my appointment inside the hospital in just 16 minutes.

This is why all my boards “small.” I don’t join group rides anymore as they’ve become pissing contests.

I have the train/car for longer journeys. Now, I’m just waiting for the tram to start operating for when it’s raining.

Yesterday the little dude asked to go to the skatepark.

It’s always a bit of an effort packing up the minivan, getting all the safety gear and rides…

Yesterday I only brought the remote for the ATV. The board itself stayed on the wall apparently.

So I was stuck riding the GT which is not nearly as much fun…

Little dude had fun though.
It’s so cool seeing him just kinda do his own thing out there.

He rolled around on his electric bike, which is killer because he can really cover some ground.

Now that spring is here and evenings are long, I expect this will be happening way more.

I needed to run downtown today at lunch break for an errand.

So I had to play PEV roulette.

It’s sprinkling, which eliminates most everything.

I really wanted to ride the Flux… But that is a fair weather board.

I wasn’t really feeling the Onewheels or EUC.

The Gravel Boi is still sitting low on the Akashas which my old self is not going to ride on wet ground.

So today’s choice was the Gravel Flux.

It’s such a fun board to ride. But I don’t usually think of it for errands since it’s so giant…

One thing that ends up being really nice around town is being able to go up curbs, and down curbs.

This is the only set up I feel totally good about doing this with, and it does it so well with the 9 inch tires.

I climbed curbs several times today for practical reasons!

I got the new hip pads.

The EUC kids stopped by today.

One of them got the new Veteran Lynx and I wanted to check it out.

It’s a bigger version of my Patton in many ways.

The good news is that I rode it up the block and it felt big, and tall, and stiff…
So I didn’t immediately fall in love with it

So hooray for not wanting more stuff!!!

We all followed the little dude to the school for his most epic group ride to date!!!

Jaden is in the house.
He even got out with the EUC kids last night, but I could not go ride with them!!!

I had seen your board on his Instagram.

I like having these smart BMSs on my boards.

There are still several unmonitored batteries in the garage that stress me out.

But at least these I can check on regularly and see what is happening

There is so much cool stuff happening it has been hard to keep up on here.

But spring time has been great and I have been getting some really good riding in!!!

Today is a pretty good example.
.
Hung out with the two boys at the skatepark for a good 2 hours.
Clocked about 9 miles in there on the Hosoi.

And tonight I went out for 18 miles on the Llama Links
