My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Trying to organize.
Shit is beyond ridiculous.

Well!!! It looks much better. Time to start a new cycle of destroying the garage again…

I’m definitely stoked I changed the Tayto with the standard caliber trucks to the coyote with the 9 inch Caliber IIs.
I really like this little guy.
Had a nice 10 mile ride in the neighborhood today.
It really seems faster than it is,

being so little.
Tonight felt like a throwback to my first esk8 days, riding the single drive metroboard in the neighborhood.

And there goes another new beginning…

Ok.
So a little catching up.

More action on the Rayne Crush.

First was the deck swap of shame.

Stupid me at 225 lbs bought the soft flex of this deck.
That was dumb.
Too bouncy.
So I bought the firm flex version.
Mucho more better…

Looked pretty didn’t it.

But I decided to get rid of the now red Boas and put in the TB 100mm 74a.

That was an interesting adventure since I could not get the 3d servisas pulley off of one of the Boas…

I like the look with the black

I also like feel of the TB wheels much better.

They are gummier and grippier and seem more comfortable on rougher roads.

So that was a good change…

Off course on my second ride with the black wheels I get weird shit happening with the motors and the controllers…
These are my old Flipksky 6374s that have seen a ton of miles. They have served me well…
So I decided to get some new TB 6374 motors.

When changing out the motors one of the bullet connectors seemed kinda of too easy to take off… So that may have been the whole issue and I will try to run the Flipksky motors again on another board.

So.
Tons of updates on this set up.

And now it has been running really well

I really like the deck.
Decent little bit of flex without too much bounce.
Great concave and a nice standing platform even though it is smaller than the other big boards I have.

The wheels are feeling pretty damn good.
The motors are really smooth.

And I can get a solid 17 miles out of the 10s4p pack.

So this guy is looking good and is now pretty much on daily rotation.

Hooray.

Ok.

Let’s talk about the return of the “Other Demonseed”
“The Demonseed” was the first one and has the orange hex grip tape. It is still out of commission.
I have to build the 10s5p 40t pack for it and I keep putting that off.

I think I have not actually had both Demonseeds running since December.

But the Other Demonseed saw some action in some variations recently… Six shooters. Then clouds… Then clouds again… Then 110. But recent versions had the old 10s6p pack that was double stacked so with the 110s it rode great but it would scrape a lot.
So that pack went to the Rayne Rival Cartoon.

And both Demonseeds went up on the wall…

Kind of a shame…

I enjoyed the Rayne Rival Cartoon with the Paris trucks and the Caguamas… But really the Demonseed has made all of the shorter boards feel a little funny…

So deck swap it was… I decided I would try the Demonseed top mounted and it might be low enough with the Caguamas…

I painted the bottom with truck bed liner cause I love that shit…

It came together nicely. Bringing back some old parts like dickyho mounts for the Paris trucks and the janux cross bars I bought with my first set of diy mounts…

So I go ride it and it dies on me after 4.5 miles…
Same drive train that was running well on the Rival Cartoon… So I’m like, what the fuck…

One wire came disconnected on the switch.

I’ll freaking take it. Easiest problem I think I have ever had…

So back in business.

Got some Riptide backing plates which is a nice touch.

When I was putting those on I found the world record chunk…

I ran into some weird behavior on a ride with motors stuttering and such so I was going to open it up…

Then boardnamics shows up with more stock on the 184s.

So I ordered those.

I love his trucks and mounts with the single clamp so I was going to wait for those to mess with the board.

I decided to put a set of newer Flipksky 6354s on here that were on my Stoke board( currently out of commission…)

So new axles and mounts. Newer motors. And the newer edition of the dickyho press fit/bolted wheel pulleys.

Looking good.

I took the upgraded board on its mayden voyage today at lunch and it felt great.

Caguamas are magical.
15/36 is a pretty sweet spot on the gearing.

The trucks are not as carvy with the boardnamics axles vs the Paris. But still good. The stance is about an inch wider.

I ran into an issue with one of the mounts moving so the ride got cut short.

But

But I cranked the shit out of them and slathered more loctite everywhere so I should be good on my next voyage.

I am glad to have this giant under my feet again… Just love this deck.
I need to get the other one going with the 220 trucks and the TB 110s soon.

Say what you want, but i bet this kind of shit is caused by the dye.
Can always happen, but this really beats enertion tires hahaha so next time motto is: no dye. no cry :handshake:

I was wondering that too. I don’t think because of one example that this is what caused it, but I’m definitely suspicious

I have seen that kind of chunk on dyed wheels a few times in here until now.
Its just a thought, but the universe told me I am right hahahha

Ok.
So this little bit here is going to be the story of the world’s most expensive timing belt.

In these few years I have been riding electric boards I think I have only had like 4 maybe 5 times a belt snapped on me.

The most recent episode was on the Omakase.

This happened to be a 12mm belt because I was tight on space to line up a 15mm belt.

So this belt breaking spiraled into a series of upgrades for the Omakase.

It is an awesome little board so it deserves good parts.

I did not really plan to do a bunch of upgrades. But it just kind of snowballed.

All I was going to do was put on the BN 184s.
That is reasonable. Get a bit more space. Get the nicer machine axle on there.

The motors used to be crooked on the caliber mounts which always bugged me.

So I switch axles using the bkb mounts shimmed with a couple of washers…

Pretty straight now.

Interesting to see on the blue kegels the difference between front wheels and drive wheels.

So I get the mounts on there and I happen to update the esc firmware to the latest. This board had a Flipksky 4.20 dual plus and Flipksky 6354 190kv motors.
And it was running fine…

So I upgrade the firmware and run detection…
And one of the motors comes back unsensored… Fucking fuck.

So this triggers a small freak out. And I decided this needed more better parts…

So here we go.
New TB 6354 190kV motors.
New orange kegels.
New Zealous bearings.
New BN 36 tooth press fit pulleys.

So I go and put it all together.

And something didn’t feel right.
You guessed it. That Flipksky 4.20 plus just didn’t seem to fit in with all this other good stuff…

So I decided to put a Unity in there.

So now we are really cooking.

Since no good deed goes unpunished in the midst of this I realized there are cracks on two of the bolt holes in the bkb enclosure.

Talk about infuriating…

So since I am this far into the rabbit hole I ordered the eboosted Tayto enclosure to slap on here.

Not so sure when that will arrive. Hope it all fits ok.

So yeah.
It was just a broken belt.

The good news is that the ride is awesome.
And the Unity inspires so much more confidence than the Flipksky.

So this little guy is even more enjoyable.

Well.
I did this.
I just couldn’t deal with the Evolve controller.
Never cutout on me or anything.
Just not as good as an esc…

This is yet another refresh on the Evolve.

All there is here from the evolve is the deck.

So. I made my 4th battery pack.
A 10s4p 30q pack.

I took the old Flipksky 190kV 6374s.
The Hexls trucks.
A Flipksky 4.20 dual plus ( the one from the Omakase…)
Cooked up another set of blacked out blue Caguamas.
And slapped it all together.

Since I like to get high off or rattle cans I painted the enclosure again and the cans on the Flipksky motors.

I took it out late last night. And today at lunch time.

I just wish I had an unlimited supply of unities to put one on here.

If someone has a cheap pair of Focboxes I’ll take them.

I am leery of pushing it too hard because of the Flipksky.

But really performance was pretty decent.
Did 16/40 on 85mm wheels so decent torque.

This thing is super duper low…
If I do a hard u turn front side the enclosure actually scrapes.

The trucks are interesting.
This is my only TPK set up.
They really turn super well and are fun to carve on.
I haven’t and probably won’t ever go really fast on this board so not sure how they would do at speed.

So I am happy to have another working board in the mix.

The low stance and small wheels and these trucks make it pretty different than the other ones I have working now.

Bringing back the Bamstoke.

Remember this guy…

Well.
Not too long after I got it done the battery crapped out… So it has just been hanging on the wall.

I have been meaning to bring it back to life.

I finally got around to it.

Some things are different:
It used to have a 10s4p. But now it has a 10s3p bkb pack I got second hand. Thanks homie. @ProfoundMagician
It used to have Flipksky 6354 motors and I’m putting in my old Evolve Bamboo GT motors… 5065 150kvs I believe. Still going…
Main reason I wanted to use the Evolve motors is so I could put in their bash guard kit.

So. In summary. Can

Trucks and motors from my old Evolve Bamboo GT.
Earthwing Muirderer deck chopped down.
Psychotiller Evo enclosure chopped down.
New Evolve Bash Guard.
10s3p 30q pack from BKB.
Flipksky 4.20 Dual Plus.
Blue Caguamas running on 16/34

I started off by soldering new connectors to the motors and mounting them along with the bash guard.

The parts for the bashguard are really pretty nice…

After this it sat around for a bit because I was going to build a pack and then happenstance landed the bkb battery on my bench.

This made life a million times easier and I just needed to hook stuff up together…

I took it out last night and it performed pretty well really for what it is…

It tried to kill me a couple times with the back wheels sliding out… And I came off but was able to run it out…

Need to get used to that.

So I was hoping that with the smaller battery it would be easier to use the kick tail and it was not…

Well. The issue is that I had the trucks mounted on the outer holes on the Muirderer. I had to do that before with the 10s4p battery…

But last night I realized I could move the trucks up and I did that this morning.

It was really pretty easy… I just had to peel back the grip tape and cut a notch on the enclosure.

This made the tail 100 times more usable.

One thing that is a trip is that I decided to go off curbs.

I never did that intentionally with any of the other boards…

It is pretty fun.

But I wonder how long before something breaks and what will break first.

I also decided I need to go from 16/36 to 16/34

So I am changing that. The speed was ok on a full battery. But got lame with a bit of sag.

So hopefully that will do it.

Those bashguards are sick asf, and glad you’re putting the pack to good use.
