My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

I Did get into some tinkering today.

Skyart motors showed up to save the 38/11 4GS.

Really nice packaging.

And later on I put the Drives together.

Gave the motors a circumcision…

And slapped one on.

The angle I had set the one drive when it was going to go on the Gravel Boi was going to work on 6374 and be more in line with the baseplate. Or pointing up a bit.
That was not gonna fly with the 6485s
So I had to kick it down.

Decent adjustability on the Newbees…

Putting the NewBee drives together is really fun.
What a clever set up…
I did have to unbolt the motors from the plates a couple times. Once to move the wires over , and second because I got the little plate upside down…
One side only got one grub screw on the motor pinion…
The other one I got both in fine.

The Skyart motors are 151kv with the 38/11 and 170 Evolves I think I will top around 38… Maybe.

I did order some CST 190x50 to try on here.

I stopped and didn’t get into opening the enclosure so I would not stay up forever.
But good progress today.

I have a bunch of work to do.

I still need to get the Enclosure put on the Gravel Boi and route the wires… Buncha work.

And the IdeaTB mounts for the Demonseed will be here next week and I want to jump on getting that together so I can try Razillian’s DKP trucks.

Feels pretty cold.

No lunch break ride today.

Gonna open up the Flux

Which wheels are the Hubba wheels again? Do you have a link to that?

Super odd there isn’t a thread for those.

This one:

Just not in the title…

Oh man…
Lazy cold Friday night.

Prime time for tinkering…
But I am riding the couch being lazy… Too stuffed from dinner.

I did get the motors off of the Flux.

Slightly annoying that they had 5.5 mm bullets…

Now I have to do some soldering.
Gonna slap 4mm on the Unity.
The solders on the SKP motors looked good.

I also go the IdeaTB mounts in the mail and they look super nice with the sandblasted surface.

I am excited to get those installed.

Alright.
Let me do some catching up.

So last Friday I stayed up late putting the Flux back together.

Here you can see the 4GS on Matrix II and 6485 motors .
It has to be at an odd angle pointing down a bit.

I will point them up with the Matrix III…

I actually went out that night at 1:30 in the butt ass cold to try it out.

And the board felt great.

Saturday was a pretty epic day.

My new buddy Daniel with the Vesc Onewheel hits me up to go ride.

And he takes me to this trail miles from my house.
That is a total game changer for my Onewheel life.

Super fun to ride.
Crazy exercise.
So accessible to me.

I am so stoked on this.

Pretty much after that Benji came over and we put the Evolve wheels on his Zeus and we went riding.

And I did 11 miles on the Flux.

Awesome day so far…

So the Flux was doing great with the 4GS and the Skyart motors.

It in fact eliminated the weird vibrations I had going in the drivetrain.

But 151kV 38/11 with 7 inch wheels didn’t feel quite right.
I wanted a bit more top speed.
So I slapped 8 inch Kendas back on.

And I went for a 17 mile night ride.

And this is the sauce.

The added speed with the 8s was perfect.
Still tons of torque.
Super smooth.
Super quiet.

The Kendas are rolling pretty well.

I was enjoying the Evolve 7s quite a bit. They ran smoothly. I liked the lower ride.
And you definitely felt the road more.

I am really enjoying the cushiness of the Kendas.

This was a really sweet ride and the Flux felt perfect.
It’s nice when it actually works out.

Sunday got started back on the Trails with a new Onewheel Buddy.

It was probably the first time I have ever hung out with someone else that was wearing butt pads.

Super cool dude.

The float was epic.
Those trails are amazing fun.
Soooo stoked.

Monday fun day!

I snuck down to the trail solo.
If I go the straightest way from my house it’s 1.8 miles and I only use 10 % of my battery.

I took it slow because my legs were feeling it from the days before.

Still can’t get over how cool this spot is.

Then for lunch break I wanted to take out the Flux… Which I did for a short ride. Battery was low.

I then took a thousand pictures of the Fluxes…

I then took the Gravel Flux out.

Low and behold a few hours later after work I got more action in and took out the Flux.

Both of these sets ups are so good now.

The Street Flux is lower and Goes a bit faster.

You do feel more torque on the Gravel Flux.

Both feel so plush on the street.
And I can roll over anything on the Gravel Flux, but with the 8inch Kendas and all kinds of torque the Flux can do well in most AT situations. Dirt, grass, gravel… It kills it all … Just can’t do big rocks or go up and down curbs.

Monday Flux Day!!!

how quiet is the reacher/4gs setup?

Super quiet dude.
I’d venture to say it’s a smidge louder than the Flipsky 55/11 combo on the Gravel Flux.

But compared to anything else it is mind blowing to me…

The Belt drive that was on here before with the TB motors was actually quite loud.

I don’t seem to have a ride video.

On the bench at high RPM it’s a screamer…
But actually riding is way quieter.

In the coming week Ill be transitioning my Kaly to belts/idea motor mounts from bn-m1at, so I’m hoping it sounds nice. Reacher motors too.

At the very least the chatter on free roll will be gone.

You plan on running the idlers?

Probably not - I’m not a fan of idlers and I have 20mm wide belts, so it shouldn’t be nessesary.

Yep. Less is more.

So the beginning of December was really not super wintry and I rode quite a bit.

A few days back winter dropped the hammer super hard and it was insane cold…

Like no going outside.
And not even tinkering in the garage because I was too cold in there.

It was weird.
Besides riding the Pint in the house I was totally detached to esk8 for a few days.

It’s less insane cold out and I actually rode some today.

My neighbor got his 10 year old son a Zealot for Christmas.

I can’t quite get over what a value that is for 600 bucks.

And it’s just really nice. All the parts that make it up

So today we went to a parking garage for a bit.

I took the Dinghy, the Crush and the GT. But mostly rode the GT. The Crushs battery was really low. And I did zip around the Dinghy some.

I am excited to see this kid get comfortable on this board and come out riding.

So cool.

A bit later on just for shits and grins I took the GT up the block in the snow…

Slow slow stroll.

Man oh man.

Riding makes me happy!!!

I got to ride yesterday and it was so nice to get out and roll around.

We had finally escaped the Arctic blast and got to just above freezing.

So I got out and did 9 miles on the Gravel Flux.

I’m stoked my boards and clothing have evolved to the point that I can enjoy a ride on a day like yesterday.

The Gravel Flux is really awesome to have for wintry roads.

And it was sunny and nice. But it was still 32f.
But my gear kept me warm the whole time.

Mostly the roads were clear so I could ride freely.

On patches covered in snow the board was doing really well so I went and rode trails that were mostly covered.

I have gone out in snow and could not make it 30 feet and I have had days like yesterday when traction was really decent.

I had well worn MBS 9 inch tires very much on the squishy side.
