Not sure what wheel adapters you are running but the new BN adapters are quiter than the old metal ones. I also have a board with 3DS drives and it is the quiter of the 2, probably because of the plastic gears.
I made some adapters to run pneumatics on my Onsra Black Carve DD and the motors were getting way too hot so I swapped the tires for Trampa Gummies and they sucked. Now I’m running Abec 107s and it rides nice but the brakes are weak.
4wd for DD for sure if you go that route.
What does “slave” mean in metal slave pinion gears? Thanks
I wonder how newbie gd compare to herringbone bioboard gd as far as silence…?
Here is a picture of the two metal slave gears.
They go inbetween the motor pinion and wheel pinion.
The motor pinion isn’t shown in this pic.

Probably depends which model. The Element 4.0 gear drive on my Z3 is super quiet. Even quieter than my thought-it-was-silent 4GS setup.

I had a chance to ride the new 4GS gear drives for the first time last night. I’m happy to report that they are just as smooth and quiet as the previous version with the POM slave gears.
I’m really happy with these drives!
