I’m still learning towards Flipsky having a higher place on the list based on numbers. The amount of times I’ve seen their ESCs sell out and restock on Amazon has been huge.
Even with failures.
A big segment of DIY eskate people don’t frequent forums much, and don’t have eskate friends either. They see a few videos on YouTube, Google some stuff and go right to what’s easily purchased.
I could be WAY off. But the more I talk to people randomly on rides or on the street riding something, the more of them have no idea of what’s out there.
you are not wrong here. There are more somewhat isolated diy esk8ers out there than there are involved in the community i would bet. and by community i don’t mean just this forum, i mean all of it.
I would go as far and say that flipsky sells the most ESCs out there, and right after Trampa and Unity/Xenith. Don’t forget that Trampa sells to a lot more guys than just board builders, universities for example.
I would also like to chime in and say flipsky probably sells the most followed by unity. They’ve been in the game way longer and have built so many 4.xx 6.xx variants, not to mention theres a whole asian esk8 scene we dont really hear from. Though with their recent price hikes and new competitors in makerx and spintend, their market share would probably drop fast.
I own 3 mgm escs and the 800a eac u will have issue’s finding something big enough to fit it in other than say losi 5t or a vekta 5 the 400s are good size but again still massive escs but mgm also has a 250a esc
I see the tenka being really popular, but it’s usually replaced by something better down the line.
I see quite a lot of Stormcore.
Spintend UBOX seems to be the default for high-voltage builds (>14s)
My personal vote is for Maker-X DV6. I don’t see it used near as much as I’d like to, it’s a very reliable and robust VESC 6 based design with many of the bells and whistles including power side and phase shunts.
Flipsky 6.6 is a common go-to as a balance between cost, availability and features.
