Morpheus | Backpack MTB | Refined Commuter

I’m thinking half the reason I fractured my humerus is because of the weight in the backpack, but I bought the A123 LiFePO4’s now, so…

Current thinking is make an enclosure for the board with 24S2P for commuting, and a further 3P I can add via the backpack for long rides.

Also replace the remote I broke, change up the motors for 140kV ones, and ad AS5047’s like I said as the sensor cables will now be short.

How much weight were you at in the backpack? I started working on a SPIM08HP pack (12s1p [what i had laying around]) which comes out to 8.5~ pounds, I’d hazard the whole thing with the controllers, battery and the weight of the backpack was something near 15, even that was rather shockingly heavy feeling.

Edit: just weighed it, 14.2 pounds so pretty close :slight_smile:

Try 30 pounds for size. That’s 23 pounds for the 20S1P 15Ah Headway 40152S battery pack alone, and the rest for ESCs, AS, laptop and related everyday needs.

All of that smashed my shoulder into the road.

Damn that’s hefty…I think my MTB is less than your backpack with everything on it

Isn’t it easier to just stack a box with more cells on the board? Shorter wires, lower CoM, less perceived weight

Gross; My knees are bad enough, adding another 15 pounds to my kit may be enough to throw them over the edge :smiley:

This (the weight) is probably subconsciously the reason why I just couldn’t convince myself to go with the LiFePo4 batteries and will likely end up picking up some P42’s. I also dont commute with my board at all, so bringing my laptop with me and any other “EDC” items really isn’t a concern.

Still havent had a chance to test the board out yet, soon as I plugged in my pack my SuperFOCer6.8 blew up :man_shrugging:. I did expect to revisit the top/under deck mount idea after getting a feel for the back-mount but maybe that’s something I should start sooner rather than later.

That’s probably where I’ll end up. Make the top removable for when I don’t need high voltage and high capacity.

I still like LiFePO4 for the never worry about fires and even discharge benefits. Note that the above weight was with a 990Wh pack.

You can still fuck up with LiFePO4, it’s harder but it’s always possible

If you have 2 pelican cases of cells stacked on your board you can use it as a chair for those long rides when your legs get tired

Well at least we have comic relief!

Maybe someone will start working on an internal battery MTB Deck that can be trusted. I just cant get over how clean the board looks without the huge pack in the middle.

Tomiboi has an AT integrated deck that is quite nice, but maybe a bit small compared to these batteries

Yeah thats something to take into consideration that I didnt really think about. With SC 100S/D coming around the corning, packs will start getting larger and an integrated deck may not be physically possible?

I have plans for a single stack undermount enclosure for the haero…

I could just vertically stack the batteries under the board and put risers on the trucks. Would maximise space usage and I could make a Lonestar-esque enclosure to keep it covered. The batteries are only 6.5cm long.

I’ll go play around with config and come back to y’all, might need to call in some @glyphiks enclosure wizardry.

I know. :pensive: My first DIY was simplicity in itself. Short range but so much punch, and two LiPo’s on top in the middle.

Maybe use the lipo’s with a bms and chargeport and a small enclosure. Would still be smaller than a lion pack probably.

7cm whether under- or top mount. I’m thinking of stacking the cells in vertically.
