More Than An Atlas - Getting into Racing

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share my board with you.

I started electric skateboarding about 7 years ago, first on a Wowgo 2S. Since then, a lot of time has passed and quite a few boards have been under my feet, but for the past two years I’ve been riding an Exway Atlas Pro 4WD.

For a while now, I’ve been interested in racing and wanted to give it a shot. Over the past months, I started modifying my Atlas. Since I’m still not very experienced in racing, I decided not to go for a completely new build, but instead upgrade my current board.

TRUCKS:
My first goal was to get a realy good truck. I considered the Duality, but because of the flat deck and clearance, I ended up going with a 3-link setup. Big thanks to @Esk8Cave for the Idea adapters. The carbon Atlas deck isn’t very compatible with the SRB 3-link + Idea adapter, so I had to make some modifications to make everything fit.

WHEELS:
As for wheels, I heard a lot of good things about the Exway CST tires, so I went with those. I’m running them on MBS Rockstar Pro II XL hubs with 15 mm spacers.

BINDINGS:
Since I didn’t want to drill into the carbon deck around the battery, I’m not using F5 bindings, but Exway’s stock bindings instead. They’re not as comfortable as F5s, but they get the job done.

OPEN GEAR DRIVE:
In the near future, I’d like to install a VESC and build a custom battery as well. To make the setup more future-proof, I also swapped the belt drive for an open gear drive. Huge thanks to @Dinnye for the help with that! The pinions and spur gears are SLM 3D printed from steel.

Very cool! Interested in the printed gears. Something I’ll look into.

Very cool, I haven’t seen anyone implement the Idea adapters successfully yet so it’s cool to see them in use. Also interested in seeing the SLM gears in action.

I also wanted to use more of these adapters, they’re just 3-link from Meepo and Moe.

I tried the Idea mounts with 3 links a while back on a Tomiboi deck but didn’t have the ground clearance whe the enclosure was mounted up. Made the deck way more flexible because the axles were further apart and I’d bottom out on everything. Definitely need a slim deck/enclosure setup to run them because they put the standing platform almost in line with the axles

I’ve already tried SLM-printed wheels on a gear drive from Newbee (because the manufacturer is crap and doesn’t communicate at all when it comes to warranty claims). Unfortunately, they only lasted a few hundred km, as they wore against each other extremely quickly… I’m curious how long these ones will last

@SirVesa had some positive experiences with SLM. I’ll order a set for myself to test relatively soon.
