I disagree. Function and compatibility is already a plus on both metr and NB dual end and benefits end users as well.
I disagree with your disagree , since there is always room for improvement and innovation
I agreeā¦ if you sometime not evolve over time and stick to the thing you started with it is possible that over time there comes something better on the market and it is end off business. One important thing is to listen to the guys who buys your product. @jeffwuneo is very good at this to think and rethink this.
I think if they work together and Jeff put standard a module it it without license key. Because the metr is almost a normal BT module with some special firmware and some extra tweaks to the chips. The guys who are interested in metr can buy the license/slot at Roman.
If the neobox will become a hot item more guys are going to be interested to pay just that extra slot.
in the current situation, i win because
- I get to live in a world with metr
- my gear works offline in the middle of nowhere
the business model is skewed to keep the gravy train going. but, I fear that @rpasichnyk and @hexakopter would not have invested so much of their time developing metr without that certainty that folks wouldnāt reverse engineer and pirate their stuff. to paraphrase @BillGordon, please donāt make me live in a world without metr
Most apps were a one time purchase like this back then, but with software innovation they became a monthy subscription. I mean if this model isnāt sustainable for him, they will have to switch to a subscription based service.
Like: all those video editing softwares, photoshopā¦
Thatās mostly reserved to companies, as an individual, if you buy 4 PCs you will still pay the same amount of money for the software.
If you buy in bulk those modules, as he said he would be happy to discuss about that kind of business.
Maybe you need 3 mac pros for work one at home and one in the office, and letās say one in your countryside house.
You pay the OS for each of those at the same price no matter what.
You have one time purchase apps in the App Store. That is easy transferable to another smartphone/friend. But you have apps that you can download free but when you want to use it you have to buy a license. It can be monthly(that is something I donāt want) or lifetime. The license is locked to your account. You can only use your account on one device. If you want to use it on another you have to first remove your device from your account.
I think this is the solution for the metr in the future.
Sorry my mistake, I meant to quantify that no one would have a gain to the current situation. Of course itās not the greatest as it could be with true collaboration as @stan states but itās still some.
And yes, thereās always room for improvement
Depends much on what software etc. You have for real companies who offer a cheaper price for a second pc in your account.
Not sure why everyone has such an issue with @rpasichnyk business model. Imo itās fucking smart.
Selling hardware avoids people being able to side load the app which is fairly easy even with paid apps.
Additionally making the sale though his own site avoids having to give any commission to an app store which can be up to 40%.
Imo metr is well worth every penny and I will happy buy another for my next board to support further development.
With regards to neobox, metr pro is already compatable with any vesc using standard connectors so I would guess that the standard module is already neobox compatable. If you want metrās awesome features then donāt be cheep and support the developers by buying their product.
It makes no sense for @rpasichnyk to have to share his code with a China fab house.
Additionally AFAIK metr authentication works using a unique code in the device, which is then added to an exception list in the app. This allows the devs to control the list of ālicensed modulesā. For this reason it makes sense that @rpasichnyk would need to program the modules so that he can retrieve the device idās and add them to the device list. This way he can also verify that all devices are authentic and not spoofing known idās.
It makes sense to offer a bulk discount which he has done but no reason for him to take unnesacary risks to integrate with a product that his module already sports.
TL;DR:
If you want metr, donāt be cheep, buy a metr.
We never ask him for code. We ask for binary file for flashing. We not interest for his code, we wanted to make integrate into neoBOX dual so easier for user to setting up.
Is no matter is too complicate for this idea and cannot working.
If friend want to use metr for neoBOX can just plug in.
So there wonāt be any issues like ghosting you get if you ring 2 servers together?
Totally agreed here, my suggestion was to add another income stream if he wanted, by not selling the hardware, but the DRM via IAP for neoBOX.
That would be fairer but there are not enough new esk8ers buying modules to warrant a lifetime subscription even for $100.
A monthly subs may be a runner but then no money in winter as subs get dropped (unlike Netflix for ex)
Yeah probably. Anyway they need to add a hardware ID for the module on the server side to allow the app to comm with the moduleā¦So concerns of multiple modules sharing the same ID . Did I say too much?
This registration can be simple fix for software. It sound very manual now. Is ok. We no integrate this, if people want can buy separate from they.
I prefer no subscriptions personally
I no say subscribe
I think this bears mentioning. Thereās a saying, āThe Quarterback always wants the ballā. This is almost always a good thing. It means that the guy doing the development/build is completely responsible but it also means the same guy has a large amount of experience. I think @rpasichnyk has earned that amount of trust.
But then if you buy one Davega X, you will still need to buy 3 more at full price if you want one for every boards.
agree mike, as well as our respect.
