Looks exciting and nicely done! The 18S exway ESCs should be very capable! And the hot swap battery is also super cool, especially so if you release just the casing!
VESCs especially above 12S blow up for some people and hobbywings have much better reputation for reliability. I think it was the right choice to go that way as a company, I just wish more remote options would be available in different styles. I do think these ESCs could finally be a legit alternative to VESCs though, even for some DIY use.
I just wish there was a single trigger remote compatible. That would make me reconsider vescs for some boards. That said I understand I am not the average consumer.
I am also not really convinced by the fit of the new bindings. I have my feet in the bindings a little differently than you imagine people should have perhaps? I prefer the bindings to hug my feet as close as possible, and be as close as possible to my ankle. This (for me anyways) makes bindings significantly more comfortable and offers a bit more precise control. This is what a very close to perfect binding placement looks for me.
I do like the idea behind the move to a metal baseplate, it takes out a failure point and should be much stronger. And I also like the move to the snowboard mounting interface for angle adjustments.
But it seems like the binding is supposed to hug your feet at about 45 degrees.
I wish the inner ladder straps tab was closer to the middle, and the footpad part rotated or extended towards where the binding ends up looking. On my feet that would be so much more comfortable!
Maybe a footpad shaped like this, so it keeps the current area for riders that it works for, and adds a bit more width for people who prefer the bindings like me would be a nice touch. Along with figuring out a way to have the inner strap mounting closer to the heel, perhaps by having multiple tabs, so that the binding can sit closer to the ankle.
Or perhaps a “performance fit” version of the current metal baseplate using ski terminology here, that tries to hug the feet much more closely and have the inner strap much closer to the heels. I can’t be the only one who prefers the bindings to fit close to my ankle… or am I?
I wonder if I should try making a metal L bracket for the regular F5s, cut off the deck mounting part of the inner ladder strap, drill a hole and mount it to the metal L bracket. It seems like that would give me the reliability of the new solution.
Don’t get it wrong I am very excited for the launch, and overall it’s a really nice package but about the binding fitment part, I think some of the criticism could be fair.
