MBS Agent Series Electric Mountainboards Have Arrived

What up yall I’ve been gone for a while but I wanted to post this here to talk about it and hopefully, if I manage to get a demo unit, share my thoughts. Who knows if I will, but maybe @MBS will hit me up!

Anyway, MBS has a new release!
https://www.mbs.com/electric-mountain-boards

The Agent mountainboards! They’ve got a lot of interesting features and some new stuff that we’ve never seen before in the industry.

Remote / ESC Combo: From the photos we can clearly see that the remote is an Exway Rexus remote - this means only one thing, the ESC must be an 18s hobbywing! This is a brand new thing to the industry, and I’m super stoked to see how Hobbywing handles 18s! Also, the Rexus remote is awesome. Great screen, great feel, nice thumbwheel. Only complaint I have is the battery life could be better.

Motors: They look like they could be DXW but I’m not totally sure. Acedeck has a 6890 motor that looks similar as well but the rear of the can is rounded, whereas this one is flat.

image

Gear Drives: These look to be a completely new design on the market, but they smell of Exway, in a good way. The gear drives on the atlas pro were very reliable, and also used similar construction and steel-on-steel helical gears. I’m hopeful that these prove to be reliable and sturdy. They offer only one gear ratio at this time, which appears to be 15:64, aka around a ~4.3 ratio, which is a good balance of speed and power for 18s.

Wheels & Tires: Looks like on one variant with standard T3 tires they’re just using Rockstar II

But for the ultra wide variant, they may be using the Rockstar Pro II XL to get the compatibility with the wider tire. This wider tire has been seen being sold by Newbee and Exway, and is quite a premium pick, but looks awesome.

From Exway:

I’ve been itching to get my hands on these and try them out with Newbee Impalers or Pentagram but I can’t stomach the price

Battery: 18s! Pretty dope to see a production level board with 18s, especially a hobbywing one, this could be a new generation of power for our enjoyment! There are two variants of the battery on their site, by math, presumably 18s2p and 18s4p of P42a cells but that info isn’t fully available

It has some decent features

However, they both command extremely premium prices. I hope their durability and versatility will hold up to that cost. They have a unique quick swap system that we haven’t seen before as well, which is extremely intriguing, especially to me, since I designed my own mountainboard top mount quick swap system some time ago.

Maybe it uses some sort of cantilevered clip? Sort of hard to tell from the video and pics

image

image

Trucks: They appear to be Matrix III, the 280 variant, which is cool, because what that translates to is that we have another option for steel gear drives on Matrix III trucks!

image

Deck: Reminds me a lot of the Haero bro, including the footage of it flexing in the video, but it is distinctly MBS. Very neat, lots of inserts. Two battery cable channels as well.

Bindings: NEW MBS bindings! This is cool, but expensive. They seem to have an attached metal baseplate rather than relying fully on the nylon straps. certain users have had issues with ladder straps breaking recently, and this change in mounting seems like it would help reduce the stress applied on the ladder strap significantly. However, the compatibility of these new F5X bindings with certain decks may vary a lot.

They appear to mount via a middle channel of sorts, and then have infinite? rotation ability. Pretty neat. Good news is they appear to be compatible with the same over-foot and heel straps as the F5’s, so I wonder if we could maybe get piece-parts as an upgrade kit?

Anyway, enough yapping. The price is premium, the newness is vast, and I’m excited. What do you guys think? This post reads like an ad, and despite wanting to be affiliated with MBS, I am not.

Please send me one to rip around and compare to my DIY mtb

@MBS bold choice breaking into the esk8 market in 2024! I wish you nothing but success. Probably a smart decision to partner with an established brand like Exway for the electronic bits, spinning all that up from the ground is… hard to pencil out, as I well know

The new gear looks sweet! Any plans to have a company presence at any upcoming esk8 events such as Esk8Con?

Haha. Yes, we are zigging while others are zagging. A treacherous market for sure. But we really believe in the electric side of the sport. We have for years and continue to today. It’s more of a vision than a cold calculated business decision (obviously ). I think the content we’re producing on these shows that our vision for the sport is bold and long term.

Yes, we decided early on that a reliable partner for the electronics was essential to allow us to focus on the bit we’re best at, Mountainboards, content, community. I’ve learned so much from you guys over the years, but the most important thing I learned is that I hadn’t even learned 0.1% of what it takes to do this properly - haha. You guys are amazing, as are the engineers at Exway. High praise for the whole team. They’re as committed to development and innovation as MBS. And the electronics have been a very collaborative process. This wasn’t taking something off the shelf. MBS significantly contributed to building the the shelf this sits on. That’s why it took so f’ing long! We just left the critically important electrical and software engineering required to satisfy our demands to the experts. And experts they are.

DEFINITELY attending and supporting electric events moving forward. Aimed to in 2023 - haha! But development is a bitch (as you know). We wanted to have all the wrinkles fully ironed out before launching and as with most worthwhile projects that took twice as long as planned.

Can’t wait to see you all at Esk8Con 2025! And we’d love to put on an off-road electric event at some point in 2025 (if not too late to organize). If anyone has thoughts on that let me know. We’d want it to be on our home ground in Colorado. Apart from that we’re pretty open.

This might be just what I was looking for.

Seeing as how I can’t seem to get it together enough to do a DIY build.

Teaming up with an established brand is exactly how I would have hoped this would play out.
Two specialists working together and brining their strengths together for one killer product.

I am so down - stoked to see the progress and I can’t wait to see it at esk8con if I don’t get to before then!

I’m sure there’s tons of amazing places to ride out there!

Haha of course, I try. I’m planning to record a video about it tonight and post this week if possible to help spread the hype

Haha. You’re our ideal customer! I’m obviously personally VERY keen on DIY. So much to learn from the experience. But I understand it’s not for everyone. Or even in an ideal world where it is for everyone, it’s better to start learning by experimenting on more modest builds. This board is serious, and it genuinely does take a lot of effort to make every component on a board like this reliable, not just on day one, but for years to come. Anyone on this forum can attest to that. Really appreciate your comment. Hoping there are enough people out there with similar views to make this work for us. I really want to see this side of the sport grow.

Congratulations MBS! I love your new e-boards and the website looks very nice!

The video is great too! :metal:

These motors look like the Meepo SRB MONSOON motors!

Any guess at a launch window @MBS?

Its bad enough that I’ve not managed to DIY my esk8, its gotta be my top 10 biggest regrets.

And now you’re saying I’m your ideal customer, and its OK because DIY isn’t for everyone?

Why must you hurt me in this way?

hahaha! Went too far? Clarification needed… I mean serious high power builds like this might not be good for a FIRST build. In fact, we’ve tried to continue supporting DIY efforts as much as possible with this line. Everything is compatible, and individual components will be available for sale not too long after the completes. Next shipment. Pick and choose which parts you want to use for your build - gear drives? Quick-swap battery? Trucks? Deck? Whatever. Then DIY the rest. Our ESC can still motor learn other Motors and we’ll even be selling the connectors we use with pigtails for integrating into DIY builds. My intentions were honorable when I made the comment . I promise!

Haha. Yes. Shipping is a wild card at this time of year. If all goes well, we’ll start shipping in the first week of December… but trying to keep that vague, because at this time of year “if all goes well” doesn’t mean a lot.

Individual components available early 2025.

This is amazing to hear! Ideally, DIY enthusiasts could use better motors, like Reachers, for example. Do you know if we’ll be able to connect another 18s battery? For instance, if we made an 18s8p battery, would it be compatible as a DIY platform, or are we locked out in some way? By the way, huge congratulations on the launch! I’m so hyped—I found out so much about it within the first 20 minutes of launch! :joy: :joy:

This is fantastic to hear! Some of us DIY enthusiasts are really eager to get more info and specs on the gear drive. Is there any information you can share with us? For example, details on the mounting style whether it uses a clamp or mounts directly onto the truck and whether the motor pinion is D-shaped or if there will be both 8mm and 10mm options available. It would be great to learn more about the gear drives, especially since, as you know, there are very limited options on the market right now.
