Little FOCer! 84V 5kW VESC-Based Controller

I wonder how that would interact with the latching button?

It would be super cool if it could be swapped to a momentary haha I’ve almost left my raceboard on twice now

Wishful thinking I know

I’d happily pull my whole board apart to swap the switch.

We are working on adding this to the design for Solo, as more progress is made will for sure share

But i dont think it will be backwards compatible

The momentary switch support for both the SOLO and LFOC are happening in tandem. And yes it will support both latching and momentary switches. But if you use latching, then you won’t have any auto-shutdown.

Backwards compatible to solo v1 tho?

So nice you are doing something new!!

LFOV v4 changes so far:

  1. Stronger buck converters for 2x accessory power.
  2. Improved gate drive stability
  3. Addition of current sense filters (for better sensorless operation)
  4. Improved MCU input/output protection for all user-accessible pins
  5. Vertical USB connector
  6. Momentary Push button support for on/off
  7. Dedicated pin for smart LED control separate from SERVO pin
  8. Protected 5V output on hall and on/off connectors
  9. ESP32 wireless module for bluetooth. Stronger signal and no issues with iphone
  10. 30% cooler operation with better MOSFETs

That’s nice.
Few questions:

  • Any differences in current values? And in voltage?
  • Any chance of having lights support/connection?
  • Are you working in a tronic too? If the case, any specs to share?

Nope. Higher voltage is what the Tronic 250R is for and its getting a similar update

Yeah smart LED control. Dedicated connector and what not.

Yes. Tronic 250R going to 32S operations and having similar upgrades.

Awesome so 250R will be 32s, that’s great!!
Few questions for the tronic:

  • What about current (amperage) values for the new tronic? Hope at least keep the specs of the previous one without reducing it (ennoid has 32s ESC too, but reducing the current a lot)
  • And what about light control on it?
  • Momentary switch?
  • What about the footprint? Anchor holes? Compatibility is very important
  • Availability?

Thanks Shaman, all these are very good news! thanks for the efforst and great work

So it will be less efficient at 24s compared to 250R v1?

Same amerage values but with cooler operation. Switching over to better MOSFETs since things are coming back in good stock

Yes. The goal is to give it as much capability for OW-type applications as possible. Having Smart LED control also gives the opportunity to support things like blinkers and other lights for other applications

It’s intended. The challenge is on the firmware side.

Same drill pattern and PCB size. I’ve had requests for the large capacitors to be horizontal rather than vertical. The design can support either.

The design work is in progress. Stand by for updates.

Actually no. The MOSFETs i’m switching to are higher voltage AND lower Rds(on). Meaning cooler (more efficient) operation.

I have some more question, will number them for easy reply for you:

  1. That’s sounds amazing. Would it need an extra pcb in order to connect the lights, or would be available in the ESC itself?
  2. And could it even support a buzzer?
  3. What is the LEDS support? like 12v/5A for example?
  1. I guess the momentary switch will enable auto shutoff, right?

  2. Last question, I guess the Tronic 250R 32s you are talking about, is not the Tronic X12, right? I ask for 2 reasons:

  • looks like X12 is 30s and not 32s
  • X12 is not the same footprint as 250R but larger

I do hope the more robust light power supply is on the 5v rail.

The 12v LED support is silly in my opinion.

Accessories on the same circuit as my pwm input is scary to me. I want that stuff isolated

Yes the 5V rail can supply up to 2A

  1. No extra PCB. The controller by itself supports smart LED control

  2. It can via the available extra GPIO. The LFOC has always been able to do this

  3. 5V Smart LEDs. Ones like the ws2812b.

  4. Yes

  5. 250R is not the X12. X12 is something else

Thanks for the patience and reply all the questions.

  1. Last question about LEDs control for Little Focer 4 and new Tronic 250R 32s:
    I guess, lfoc/tronic could control:
  • a front light
  • a tail light
  • status light (the one on the footpad)
so 3 different LED strips, right?
  1. And the final question is the ETA? At least something little approx. or a time range…

Tronic 250R 32s with the specs given, is “the ESC” at the moment. Nothing better

How much current can 12V supply?
