question:
If the tactical flashlight I have uses an 18650 button top cell is it unsafe to use a standard 18650? I have one extra sanyo cell with a bit more capacity I want to try. Or anything i should do the cell to make it safer if anything? thx

It depends on the style of the positive contact. Some lights have the positive contact recessed specifically to prevent flat-top or backwards cells from making a connection.
Others have a spring on both ends, or a nub + spring combo, so a flat top cell will be just fine.
One thing I’ve noticed with my own flashlights (springs on both ends) is that if you drop the light face down, the force can be enough to bottom out the spring and leave a dent in the flat top cells. I’ve taken to adding a rubber o-ring to each end to act as a shock absorber to prevent the cells from bottoming out the springs during instances of spurious mechanical energy input.

Does anyone know A) how to remove sl200 silicone, Im wanting to wire them up to a switch inside the enclosure so i can toogle them via remote.
if anyone knows their PCB layout would also help

I’ve been inside the first-gen Shredlights but not the SL200 
Pretty sure they’re potted in. Knife & hope for the best. Or use that same money to find better options

Just a few findings about lights
In my last ride the mount I made for the light broke in the middle of the woods in a moonless night, luckily I was with a friend on his bike and had brought a handheld flashlight, and by luck the belt clip went in one of the holes of my helmet and became a helmet light
What a crap position for off road riding, the light being almost at the same spot as the eyes means that no shadow is cast, so you can’t see the terrain shape, there was some long sand portions of road that I couldn’t tell if it was flat or bumpy
Having the light mounted low means every small hole or bump on the road cast a shadow that you can easily see, making riding way more safe and secure
What are you guys opinion on my take?
This is just a test of my light in a field after it had broken, at the level of a Trampa standing up

I primarily use a bright light on the front of the board and do appreciate how you can see the detail of terrain better than with a light on your helmet. It also throws enough light down the road so I can see, potentially to pedestrian annoyance even though it’s angled down.
I believe a combo of the two is ideal. A helmet light is nice off-road as well to look around sharp corners before I’m turning and helps with general viewing.

Sadly you can’t widen the beam, and I’m ngl they are expensive
I like the bright flood light on the board Lights up 180degrees for 15-20’ and then the spot on my shoulder is a narrow beam that I can scout for pot holes 30-60’ in front. Being my lead shoulder I can point it in different places with out having to move my head. Also my riding crew dont get blinded and die from hitting a parked car because I was talking to them.

And well I gotta say you just can’t beet them for the price. It’s an 8.4v light @1A
I have them wired up with a adjustable buck (12v-60v and 0-12v max 5a)
Then wired to a switch which is fused and the result are amazing.

I’ll make a thread on how to add lights to esk8 because I think some people still doing know exactly how to, and I found it very daunting at the beginning.

My Overall goal is to be able to control the button functions wirelessly.
To start on/off - is good i imagine the ports on the PCB will correspond to the other functions i’ll learn over time.
Any idea on what size silicone wire to use? (or would that depend on if it’s just a on off switch vs also charging the light via step down/step up buck converter
I personally would probably use 20AWG but that’s mostly for physical strength, I doubt that you need that size electrically.
