Here’s a new thing I discovered for yall: Gloworm LEDs (no affiliation) makes really compact, extremely bright headlights for various sports that comes with a remote control module. The remote can switch on/off and cycle through various dim/bright modes on the fly.
The light comes with gopro style base mount or bicycle handlebar mount. I 3d printed a quick release baseplate mounted base with a LM2596HV module down to 8.4v for the light.
Heatsink is for the step down buck chip. Light has been on the board for a bit now and it’s been solid so far. Not as integrated of a solution as a integrated controller but can be moved between boards easily or used for other things.
Its dimmable dont worry.
The reasoning was against your philosophy of redundancy.
My approach to batteries is ‘fewer is better’
so lights and later even remote, should run off the main pack.
