maybe the cells would be fine and heating is a benefit to a point
lithium iron do well in extreme temps

@sofu reported it to be uncomfortable to hold, not scalding, 80 degrees Celsius is way past uncomfortable.
Aluminium being an excellent thermal conductor, we can assume the inside temperature to be within a couple of degrees of what you feel outside.
degradation of cells seems to happen at just 45c according to what i posted, or just 113f. maybe bit too hot to hold depending if you used to work in a kitchen
was a long study i posted and didnt read it all but the conclusion states even lower temp:
“The optimal operating temperature range of LIBs is generally limited to 15–35 °C. Both low temperature and high temperature out of this scope will affect the performance and may cause irreversible change to the LIBs.”
depends how much degradation you care about i guess.
im more interested in the true kv and phase resistance. if you have the ability to get that @sofu i remember you saying it wasnt easy. then we could compare it to every other motor out there and see what kind of torque a toothless motor can produce with what wasted heat. seems ideal info for a review
The temperature effect is on calendar life, not really connected to cycle life but both are important long term
Chemical reaction speed follow the Arrhenius law, you will always have calendar degradation, but they will happen faster the hotter it is by an exponential factor, the same temperature that allows cells to fast charge makes then degrade faster
If you can deplete the battery in let’s say half an hours and the truck cools down quickly, not much harm done, the problem is having the cells hot for hours and hours
@sofu did to it pay attention to that? If it cools fast after use?
It cools quickly for sure. Again, doesn’t get burning hot or anything, just verging I’m uncomfortable is all
Asphalt gets hotter than this. These trucks are right next to asphalt, so I would hope that the truck itself provides some protection against it
A big enclosure full of battery is almost as close to the hot asphalt as a truck hanger.
I would argue that with the wheel size on the JayKay that even a beefy board would be twice the distance away
Also fiberglass is a much better insulator than metal
Was watching some videos on their channel and looks really easy to swap the cells, once you pop both motors the PCB can just slide out apparently, unless there is wires connecting it to the pivot connector
If you’re referring to the one with the transparent truck I’m not sure, looks like a tech demo unit. But at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the case also!
@sofu have you had a chance to take off the wheel sleeve or even the stator to see what’s underneath?
i don’t really wanna do that if i can help it. i’d like to keep a couple things not taken apart if i can help it
Swapping wheel sleeves does not void warranty, but totally understandable if you don’t want to.
The battery and PCB are shrink wrapped together and does just slide out. From pics I’ve seen there’s some vibration dampening inserts in there too.
have one and will bring it next time i go over.
Did you tell them that? Can it be fixed?
Edit: @sofu did you experience the issue with the remote described by @flocon2001?
I mention this in my review. After I got used to the remote I’ve never accidentally triggered it. I guess some people might?
I just read in your review that setup is only triggered by a “long click” when it’s on, so I guess it should be fine?
If only these would work with all terrain wheels too …
Make sense that these are developed in Germany though, since esk8 is illegal over here and these things are as clandestine as it gets, I’d say.
@hans_maier I got used to the remote , you just have to be careful not to press hard when accelerating and also how you hold it on your finger .
I have to say customer service is excellent , I had issue with truck not charging because of the usb-c . Daniel Quickly shipped me baseplates replacements with my order of fresh blue wheels .
