Is there any way I can buy mix matched colors without buying 4 sets? Looking for 120mm in pink, yellow and purple(Ill have 4 blue). I contacted iWonder but was turned down.
Finally convinced the lady to let me build her one, but the only request for the build was mismatched tires. Im not liking the idea of dumping $400 on tires for 3 sets, but not checking off the only requirement box is not a good option.
Unfortunately I cant do 105s because its already geared down pretty low, but if I find a way to order these type of wheels from some place in mixed colors Ill definitely @ you.
Edit: There is a rare potential chance where I might just end up having to, and we could each order 2 sets and ship swap 2 from each pack… but man the speed will be like 17-20 mph if i’m lucky. Was hoping to get at least 22
I don’t even go over 18mph now since my last crash, my knees still shake when I go too fast. Anyway, ping me again if u decide the 105s mismatch colours
Hey, just want to hit you up a bit later and let you know that RIT synthetic dye worked amazing. Just mix half a bottle into a gallon of water and boil for around 40 minutes.
Little update as promised…used these on loose surfaces like dirt and sandy concrete no problem carving, even in heavy rain I was surprised how much grip I had, plenty of confidence in these wheels,as far as the cores I’ll update after the summer but I’ve hit some deep potholes and drains! @AK1 some of those colours look wicked! How does it not dye the lettering or clear cores?
Hey, the dye works a bit weird. Apparently it can make its way through the microscopic holes or mesh like surfaces allowing it to dye the rubber wheels(Kind of like a sponge soaking up colored water). The plastic as well as white print must be a significantly denser preventing the dye from getting into it. Someone else on the forum had a chunked wheel with this dye, and you could see it penetrated about 1.5cm deep into the wheel. Even if you wear them down it should last!
Also I am really happy to hear the wheels preform that nice! It will be for the girlfriend, so good grip even on sandy concrete is great to hear. Hyped for the first ride together.
Well they look great! I figured that the core is more dense so it might not be strong enough dye to change the colour of that but for the lettering to stay white and visually bright looks cool with the modded colours, hats off to you.
Did you boil up the solution with the wheel in there for 40 mins?
I only ask as ive seen some wheels delaminate from the factory without going through this process so I’d keep an eye on them and inspect them every now and then.
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised at how good the grip is! I was weary at first but now I’ve used them in all sorts of conditions I’m confident on them!
I kind of simplified it. Generally I kept it at a temperature where only a bubble or two would come up consistently, not a rolling boil. Depending on what dye you use, the time is also different. I think teal was the longest for me at an hour and yellow at 30 minutes. The difficult part is weighing down the tire without putting it on the bottom of the pot. I figured putting it at the bottom of the pot could actually damage it.
I ended up putting some wrenches in the bottom and using a decent rock to weigh it down. Definitely use some good tongs because if not, you can’t check it easily, and when you do the weight will fall off and be a pain to get out. I’d check every 10 minutes for color, but every minute initially to make sure no melting or other issues were occurring on my first try.
As of now I see no potential issues, peeling or melting. I have not ridden them yet though, I will update after that. I think in the future if I ever make another pair I’ll try to get white cores. The dark cores on these kind of darken the color, but I’m still super happy with how they came out.
I thought you might have kept it at a warm simmer rather than a 40 minute boil lol just thought I’d get you to clarify as you’d be surprised the things people do if you don’t go in to enough detail about the process.
I’m not sure what temperature would damage the adhesive on the core to the thane but thought I’d mention I’ve seen defective wheels “not this brand” just to give you a heads up,best to be safe than sorry, enjoy the new wheels, stay safe
I’ve spent far too long searching here and the old forum, but can anyone confirm what pulleys work with 120Ds on Boardnamic 220 (caliber II profile) hangers without filing away material? As I mentioned above I filed down my actual calibers, but I assumed with the longer axle on the BN hangers I wouldn’t have to. Now I’m running one BN hanger in the front and the old Caliber in the back with the drives on it
For reference I’ve tried looking in the thread on pressfit pullies (I think someone else recommended it the last time I asked a similar question) but haven’t seen this specific question answered
Cheers I was looking at those but I want a 44T one and they only seem to be available in the US. The only place I’ve found with BN pulleys here is @Anubis with the 36/40T ones. I have a dickyho hybrid pressfit/bolt on one but it’s 36T and occasionally runs on the hanger, might have it set up wrong but either way I only have 1 so it’s not gonna work
Ended up taking a Stanley knife to my nylon iwonder ones
u can buy BN’s 44t evolve pulley and also his any t count kegel pulley, then swap the pin adapter, that’s how i get my BN 44t abec pulley to work with my 105ds
or maybe Kevin can do u a side deal, so u don’t have to buy both pulleys idk
fair enough, i was getting other BN stuff at the same time when i ordered, so my choice might have made more sense. guess if ur modify nylon pulley works, then its all good.
This thread is huge and hilarious I skipped to the end after reading the first 100 or so comments.
Has anyone used bolt on pulleys with the discoveries? Mine are arriving today and I was planning on using them but I now have concerns and an thinking about picking up a set of pressfit pulleys instead.
