It seems everyone is behind on belt tech.

I don’t even see people using the GT3 stuff and then this came out back in 2015. Maybe no one uses 8mm pitch w boards which is the shortest for the continental but at least the GT3 stuff comes in 5mm pitch

Isn’t GT3 the proprietary one?

If so, that’s probably why it’s not used much.

Yeah HTD5M is really easy to get ahold of

Whoa…
herringbone pattern belt? less noise self centering!

GT3 stuff maybe costs a bit more but seems easy enough to get. Lasts longer and quieter. The continental stuff looks awesomely quiet and maybe no flanges necessary with the self centering so could fit a hair bigger pulley.

Id think the most valuable would be the one showing least resistance/drag in the smallest pulley size n seems from responses here those small pulleys easy up efficiency

…self centering belts, you say?

Cool, but herringbone is cooler!

I agree. A few ebike companies are doing some really cool things, moving from chains to belts and trying to eliminate all the downsides.

Biggest downside I see for belts on bikes is getting it on and around the chainstay. I’ve seen frames that are designed around the belt but otherwise I know people who will cut the frame n weld the belt in. Permanent. But the belts seem to last forever

Newer version of gates centertrack. Supposedly has the added benefit of being nearly self cleaning when it comes to mud.
Theres a split belt drive system ive seen that doesnt require any frame mods, also, but reviews are kinda sucky and this threads bout belts not bikes.

Ebike I"m guessing? Very interesting

Ebike, as well as a pedal bike system, simply replaces the chains with belts.

Self centering sounds like being unable to easily tell there is misalignment. People already don’t carry spares without making them 2x more expensive

Also you can’t install your belts by spinning your wheels, you’d have to remove the idler or loosen the motor EVERY time, and on most of my belt drives the wheel covers the inner 2 motor mounting screws

Y’all like your belts straight cut, helical, or herringbone?

I like 'em smooth and continuous, v-belts and v-gears only
