Is the LaCroix Strormcore Really A Disaster?

Been hearing lots of stories of Fried and Melted LaCroix Stormcore ESC. Is this true, where can I find this information. Or share your story here.

A lot of horror stories of the Focbox Unity as well. But then when you realize how many Unities are used in the wild compared to other ESCs, you start to understand that it’s normal, and at the end of the day it’s still pretty reliable. I suspect the same might be the case for the Stormcore.

I know @poastoast has killed a lot of 100Ds, but apart from the first few ones that were FW bugs that got quickly fixed by Lacroix (and replacement units issued under warranty of course), the rest have been user error. (Like water damage)

Please share other stories if you have them, but imho there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the Stormcore. Just people using them in ways they shouldn’t

I’ve had a roughly 6 stormcores, both 60D and 100D as far as I know they are all still functioning well

You never know if it really is a HW fault; you see so many people struggling with vesc setup on the forum that I think it’s pretty easy to make a mistake when setting up a board. Not to mention vesc FW bugs. Even I still make goofs from time to time; triggered a DRV fault yesterday on my 100D because I forgot to limit my battery regen setting, which caused my discharge BMS to cutout for a second :man_facepalming:

My stormcore 60d has been a very good little boy. No hardware weirdness to date.

60d+ will be installed soon

yeah just scares me when you see pics of the solder joints and stuff on the unity. personally i try to solder as little as possible for conenctors which end up with me dead if they break and try to get other people to do them. or if i have to i make sure they are never coming apart. for a company to sell joints like what you see on the unity/ unity+ is absoloutely disgusting

That’s fucking hilarious considering you use almost exclusively flipsky parts

I’m on 100D #7 but I’ve yet to kill any due to breaking any erpm limits, over voltages, things like that
(I ran lipos for about half of them) still very happy with performance
