3 years ago, I thought electric skateboards would be a fun and convenient way to get to work, even though I had never skated in my life and had the coordination of a potato sack.
I ordered a Raptor 2, which took almost 2 years to arrive -so while waiting I got a Meepo 1.0 and a noname DIY kit. Then I started building a beastly dual belt drive (42:15, 30Q 12s5p, focbox, Maytech 6374) on a Neversummer Commander 2014, but I am a lousy and impatient builder so it kept braking for stupid reasons and I shelved the damn thing for a while -till recently.
Originally I was thinking it’d be amazing to simply cruise at 10-15mph but nowadays I need at least 25mph with a lot of torque to move my 200 pound arse.
I don’t have as much time as I want (which makes sense because I want all of it :p), so I tend to be off the grid, not following what’s going on, and only resurfacing a few times a year.
I didn’t have any other outdoor hobbies for the last 15 or so years, so electric skateboards serve as my little adrenaline fix -something to make my commutes interesting instead of a chore. For that reason I stubbornly refuse to let the British weather deprive me of this -and I find myself constantly struggling to keep at least 1-2 boards working -and my clothes free of mud.
gday all , first post . don’t know much about building these yet but i’m out every day on my evolve bamboo AT and loving it . i have to admit its too fast for me atm , i’m using the speed limiter at 30kmh , i play around with rc stuff and will get into a sk8 build soon but there is so many options ! .
one more thing , i had to check and thank god you guys don’t say “stoked” all the time .
don’t think i could have handled that ! . cheers .
Hello, I just graduated highschool and am going to school for mechanical engineering in the fall. My first project along the lines of this community was I built an electric scooter out of parts from a hoverboard. The motors are super powerful and cheap so I was looking for other ways to use them so I stumbled on a thread here where they used parts from a hoverboard to make a onewheel spinoff that actually looks really cool. I guess other things about me I love building and tinkering with stuff so over the years I have built my own 3d printer, cnc mill, and a co2 laser cutter. My main hobby at first was making rc airplanes out of dollar tree foam but nobody else I know has a desire to fly them with me but loads of people love the idea of ev transportation, especially around college campus lol. But I am looking forward to meeting all you really cool people!
Hey Guys, I’ve been trying to order protective gear - I’ve ordered the 187 killer pads for elbows, knees and wrist guards but I’m confused about what kind of helmet I should get. Full face/ chin protective or just the head. MIPS needed or not ?
would love some advice
Hello everybody! My name is Dimcho, I am from Bulgaria, but have been living in the UK for over 4 years now.
I have been waiting for a while to build some courage to start writing, kinda shy when it comes to introducing. But I see some great community has formed here! I have been browsing through different topics for the last few months but just recently registered as a member.
Any ways, I believe this is gonna be a great journey for me. I am already exited and don’t know where to start from.
I have no idea how I got into this World of Esk8 but I like it. About a year and half ago, I bought a cheap chinese Electric mountainboard. I had no idea things like this exist . For the time I had the board don’t think I ever had any problems, except for last year I had to change bearings of one of the motors. Supplier never replied to my messages. I had no clue what I need to do (little to no info about parts) . This task for me was something big (for 99% of you probably 5 mins job with eyes closed and 1arm tied behind your back?). Problem maybe at the time was more of a not having the tools needed.
After I figured it all on my own with having almost 0 knowledge I was happy my board was running again . Recently some bad notice started coming out of the same motor… I kept riding for a month or so but I thought that’s not a good idea and disassembled it again. Aparently there is a loose magnet. Not sure if I can fix that and started chatting on email with APS if they can help me with motors for the unknown ESC that I got. First they said it can only run the motors that it’s made for or change to hub motors… Then they started offering me motors… I got confused… By the same time I wanted to give the board a good clean… Dunno what happened but made me sad, may be it’s for good. While trying to get 1 of the motor mounts off of the truck… It all turned into dust like. With that said, can’t use same truck for 2 mounts, have 0 info about the ESC and falling inlove with the Moondrive… I want to start build!
I am having sooo many questions, but probably will make a topic so I don’t spam all over.
Just a quick idea of what I am looking at:
Will use battery that I got wich is 42V fully charged, so is it classed as 36 or 37V? Allegedly is 13AH but I don’t trust…remote is supposed to be 800mAh but I recently found out it’s only 150mAh
Is Trampa Vesc what’s the most reliable and quick to get on market for now Do they ship from UK or? Neobox sounds good but I see some shite going on with orders…
As mentioned I have my eyes on Moondrive, hoping I can get helical? Will buy Trampa Infinity truck for the drive and a proper wheels to fit it.
I want big motors, 6384 170kv or something like that.
All I want is good torque as I ride mainly off road and as much range as I can squeeze out of this battery. Couldn’t realy go over 40kmh because of speed wobbles, it could go faster though. So not realy looking for hight top speed at moment.
I might be missing some but… Appologies for the long text
Any advices will be much appreciated and welcome!
I have made a few friendships arround mountain bikes, but tbh I have NEVER seen anybody on esk8 and people are not realy interested if I start talking about it like they just see it as a way to hurt myself. Will be happy if some day I meet people to ride (boards) with, it’s always better when you can share the little joys of life
Some pics…
That’s how I was able to ride in snow, wanted the motors to be fully protected wanna see your comments about that
Hey Dim, good to see you’ve clearly done some reading. Sad to see your board is dying on you.
Yes a 42V battery will often be labeled as a 36V battery because 3.6V is the normal charge of a lithium ion battery and 4.2V is fully charged. It’s annoying they don’t all use the same measure.
Trampa escs are solid performers and readily available. You’re right, the neoboxes have some questionable history and haven’t been tested very long.
Moon is testing out helicals in his most recent batch but they aren’t in the hands of the testers yet. I am fortunate enough to be able to test them so I will be leaving reviews soon after they arrive. I know he has a waiting list growing so I’d ask in his gear drive thread about getting on it. I have his V1 beta drives still running with no issues so I can definitely vouch for the quality
Great thanks a lot! What you’ve done with The circuit board is awesome! Thanks to @Halbj613 I’ve decided I am not going to use the old cheap esc I have left (still in good working order fortunately never failed). And while waiting for moon drive I would like to still use the battery and 1 motor left. To use as practice before I get my hands on more expensive things. So I saw a FSESC V4 but I am reading a lot of negative about FS as well. Is only Trampa’s Vesc the only reliable on the market?
Thanks
trampa is basically number 1 but costs a lot
if you can find a unity (ebay, aliexpress etc…) they are good reasonably and reasonably cheap however no guarentee if it breaks
flipsky are aweful
if you wait @torqueboards is releasing a new vesc and neobox might happen might not
Hi guys. My name is Niko, and I life in Greece. My first esk8 was a landwheel lx3. I bought recently a apsuboard gtr. It is really bad. I get signal loss all the time and the esc is jerky. I am waiting for the new vesc for it and the new remote (from electricboardsolutioncom. (Very nice guys), and smaller motor pulleys (from eskatingeu. I think this guy ripped me off). Anyways, I hope I can turn this board in something enjoyable. Nice to be here by the way
i made a post asking for some expert opinions about a product .
it has been flagged as spam .
how do i fix this , i have no affiliation and am genuinely interested in
what the experts here think .
how does someone mention a product without being flagged as spam ?
