HXHD Heat Extractor High Density

These clamp onto 63mm motors and extract heat. Not exactly a heat sink because it is not intended to store the heat, but provide a quick and efficient exit path.

I get a consistent 10°f improvement on my motors and the difference is tangible.

5 years of development and testing give me the confidence to offer these. My first prototype was with beer cans and steel wire (those worked too!). If you notice that your motors have less torque in the final laps of a race, while riding off road, in hilly or in hot conditions these will improve your performance.

I have 15 pairs in California and more here in Italy.

Price is $200.00 for a set of two. Comes with thermal grease packets, blue locktight and 2.5mm hex key if needed.

Negotiable if you can do videos or data logging rides with/without and share or send me the data.

These look to be removing heat from the magnets on out runner motors. Is that the main goal of this product?

Yes, well the bell or can of the motors. There are 14 aluminum fins that emulate the 14 magnets on a 7 pole motor.

Why only contact 14 points and not the entire can? Like what these do:

That way they wouldn’t be optimized only for 14 pole motors.

HXHD is a heat extractor. What you are showing is a heat sink. The heat sink in the photo will work until it is the same temp as the motor bell. Then it loses efficiency.
The HXHD works continuously conducting and radiating heat.
HXHD fits and functions on any 63mm dia x 60mm length motor. The number of motor poles is usually 7 for this size.
For 64mm motors (reacher) i am working on a modification.
My design is to give the heat a direct exit route. The hot points spread out from above the magnets so thats where the conductive material goes. Also balance, inertia, contact pressure, replacement, manufacturing all come into consideration.

These are after 1 year (+/- 500km) of offroad punishment with no outer protective cover / vent. At this point I have a heatsink, not heat extractor.

I can pop out the old fins, put in new ones (at low cost) and im back to HXHD status.

How do these affect motor noise? Vibration? Resonance? Motor cans are very carefully balanced in the factory. This seems like a good way to throw that off. Noticed any issues with that?

A high rpm bench test with nothing attached to the motors may reveal something, but for eskate applications on road, track or trail there is nothing unexpected that i can hear or feel.
There is the whrrr sound of air movement and with my flipskys the high rpm squeal gets a little lower from the motors being in a tube.

My modeling software says everything is balanced except for one rivet that wants to move out a few centimeters. Probably due to the .5mm gap i leave between the two halves for temp fluctuations.

I saw these in person at Esk8 con. It’s a nice design. I might have to grab a set. I’m always dealing with motor heat issues.

Are you running Reachers? Or do you prefer running closed can?

Are these as effective on motors with built in cooling? Like Radiums/SKP modors?

My opinion is closed can for off-road, then probably open can on track or street.
I got Reachers for the raceboard but they are 64mm dia even tho they advertise 63mm. :expressionless: So HXHD fits only without the 0.5mm cooling fins which makes it a heatsink and probably not as effective. I still am waiting on lipo charger then i can do some road/track tests with Reachers.

Do you over heat Reachers or just closed cans? (Imo anything over 80°C is overheated)

Radium and SKP are Reachers so i will know in a few weeks what HXHD can do on those.

Do you have any data to show this?

I used to overheat Flipsky super quick, like within a couple minutes of riding. With Reachers so far I haven’t been able to push it pass 75°C, but I’ve gotten close.

They’re rated to 100°C anyway so I don’t think a heatsink would ever be necessary or beneficial on them. Just seems like extra weight.

These are not for barefoot dancing dudes cruising to the store to get more beer and a can of cat food.
(These weigh less than an empty 330ml bottle)

Goddammit now i’ll never be able to get cat food without overheating :sob:

Have you tried holding the bottle in front of you?
