How broken are you?

Nah not taking anything. There’s pain but it’s not unbearable. Yeah man stay safe out there. I likely would’ve fractured something if I didn’t have pads on.

That is the worst way to fall by far. Even if it is super annoying to have to treat 2-4 different burns I will gladly take that over falling on just one limb any day. (I am well aware that we don’t really get to choose while in the middle of a fall though)

Like 5 months ago I cut the tip of my finger off with an exacto

How’s it look now?

Healed but a circle where cut, it wasn’t that much off the tip, maybe 1/6 of an inch ish

Lots of skin lost but never any impact to the head. Also never broken/sprained anything till pretty recently.

In October of 2023 I made a series of bad decisions that lead to a mild separation of my AC (acromioclavicular) joint, I saw a doctor and learned it was small enough that it didn’t need surgery, just physical therapy.
During that time some other health problems popped up that redirected my time elsewhere while I should’ve been letting my shoulder continue to heal.

On June 23rd I once again made a series of unwise decisions that lead me to a much more severe separation of my same right AC joint as well as a fractured wrist.

The wrist has healed up just fine with nothing but the occasional painless clicking, the shoulder appeared to be doing well until pretty recently when the recovery process seemed to take a few steps back.
After another conversation with my doctor we decided to go through with the surgery. The surgery took some time to setup, was delayed once and almost delayed twice but as of October 17 2024, I now have screws, a plate, a rod, and a dead guy’s hamstring inside my shoulder.

slight gore warning

Edited to add: shoulder x-ray before/after surgery

Bloody hell, some of you have had serious injuries.
Worst I’ve copped skating has been:
Bad road rash.
Bad internal hip bruising, hairline fracture to elbow.
Decent concussion and short term memory loss due to head impact.

Outside of skating. (Sport).
Compound concussions and memory loss; short and long term (memory came back).
Facial cuts and stitches.
Numerous fractures from hands, forearms, shins and ribs.
Spinal compression within multiple cervical spine points and accompanying minor nerve damage.
Eyesight loss (one eye nerve damage).
Hearing loss (one ear).
Dislocated shoulder, multiple fingers and toes.
Broken toes.
Partial dislocated knee.

I still ride, updated my safety kit.
Sport wise, forced retirement due to medical but still cleared to train.

How did this happen? If you don’t mind my asking.

I dont mind you asking at all, mate.

Impact damage sustained during mma and muay thai.

Time in the life takes a toll on everyone. @DougM

Just for comparison, I’m actually remarkably unscathed by esk8.

Severely bruised heel from jumping off the board and running it off after an unscheduled acceleration event (from speed to more speed). (stunned that the knees didn’t take damage)

bruised hip from another unscheduled acceleration event (from almost complete stop to full throttle).

After that I threw the remote in the trash.

head (helmet) impact, but no concussion after a distractingly cute girl on the trail event.

For me the combination of Hoyt remotes and FocBox Unities has been so reliable that I’m actually starting to trust the boards after 11 years of riding.
