Finished printing a new version of my jumbo Velcro footstops. Heat gunned em, put on some leather gloves and smushed them into a perfect fit on the deck and around my shoes, then put Velcro on the inside. I’ll mount them to the deck once the board is put together and I can feel out my position better.
The balance wires are all connected and routed. This strategy looks very neat, but it actually does involve a lot of crossovers where 2 of the battery packs fork into the parallel line. I’m handling those junctions by potting the area with e6000 to immobilize the wires, as well as stuffing pieces of kapton tape between the different layers.
Remaining items on the to-do list:
-connect balance wires to BMS
-mount foot stops and legstick to deck
-mount pinion gears on motors and mesh with wheels
You can see that upon braking, the right rear just started freewheeling, and you can hear a pop just before it finishes coasting down. I tried to accelerate again and it wouldn’t spin up. I caught a whiff of the magic smoke leaking out of one of the enclosure ports, so I pulled the loopkeys. I fear that she’s fucked, gents.
My settings for all ESCs were FW6.02, +80/-60 battery, +120/-120 motor, running HFI. I don’t think it even got close to max eRPM back there, so a random ESC lemon failure seems unlikely.
Each side of the board has a close connection to either the high or low side of the battery, then a 1m long connection to the opposite side through a bus bar. Maybe that’s too much inductance, and I should have added more capacitors? Hopefully I can figure out the failure before buying another Solo and frying it again.
Maybe it is. Looks like you got a voltage spike when braking. Add some capacitors to the vesc battery terminals or move all the vescs to the back and extend the phase wires for the front motors
Option 2 isn’t possible since the heatsinks and batteries can’t move, but I do happen to have a bag of low ESR caps lying around. Guess it’ll just be for next year’s race though
