Dangit. Didn’t think to order connectors…
If anybody got a good deal For Deck(flat 12s4p) + Enclosure + ESC. LTM im looking for a deal.
Why so many drill bits?
I found a crapload while I was working on a job in Arizona liquidating a contracting manufacturing facility called NRS
Guy likes holes
They dropped the P42A, another quarter.
The Molicel P50B is down to 6.50$ each and 6.15$ per, for 50+
It was not too long ago that the P50B was 9.99$.
The mack daddy of all high discharge 21700’s, A very limited amount of EVE50PL are also in stock, in Florida. Kinda pricey but being available nowhere else, does that.
God damn that’s quite a price. I wish I could afford to take advantage of it
I shouldn’t have, but I was in the process of planning a 12s8p pneumatic cruiser build, and the price seemed too good to pass up, especially since I’m kind of worried about tariff nonsense and molicel fire affecting batteries in the future.
Are these tabless cells or regular?
They are tabless according to diy500amp:
Yeah, they’re tabless afaik.
They are a very good cell.
This is what i was talking about and why i was suggesting to use 4.2 or 4ah to estimate the actual usable watt hours for the p45b. The bac 45d just (according to mooch tests) has more available energy at higher draw by a significant margin:
At 40a draw the p45b is giving you 3.75ah a cell which is probably true even though your continuous usage is more in the 30a per cell for the 18s8p - the hard acceleration and big bursts are significantly reducing the available energy for the brozenga build. You can kinda work your watt hours per mile backwards to find a good approximation of the actual capacity you are getting from the p45b 18s8p
The bak45d is clearly performing better at higher draw and at 40a continuous mooch tests results show the cell getting closer to 4.2ah a cell. In the same configuration it should net you maybe 10% more usable capacity for a lower cost per cell. Win win. If the lifecycle of the cells is truly also better irl its gonna add another win on there.
Cycle life should also be much better with the BAK, because it is running so much cooler in the same scenario. But be aware of early batches from the 45D. They seem to degrade rather fast. There is a new version of the cell available which has this problem solved.
Hmmmmm i think the cheap ones listed are 01 so maybe that price is too good to be true? What’s your metric for degrade fast?
The BAK45D has A01, A02, A03, A04 batches.
They are not traditional ‘Grades’ with 1 being beat and 4 being worst.
NKon was selling one batch that they said had lesser cycle life. I think it was the A03, or that was what their picture showed. Not sure.
I got 22 of the A04 in Mid April from Nelvick, and he also sent some to Mooch not long after. These were Non CCC labelled, meaning they were made before August 1 2024.
Mooch had tested the A02 version in December, and the A04 in late April/early May, and there was a slight differencen in resistance and capacity, and as an A04 owner, …Whohoo!
Nelvick at @DIY500AMP.COM has a fresh batch of the CCC labeled A04.
18650BS is selling the A02, and $3.25 is a good price. They dropped it from $6.99 8 days ago, along with a bunch of other cells. Most of other cells went back up yesterday. I’d not expect the 45D to stay at $3.25 for much longer.
My 10s2p 45d pack stays ~20C cooler than my last pack while going faster for further, and torque is way up as it sags so much less. No idea on cycle life yet. I only charge to 41v most of the time as the range is more than adequate, and my ESC soft cuts at 34v and hard cuts at 32v.
BAK has a Tabless 40D I think is available now with higher CDR than the 45D, and a 50D and 60D on the horizon.
There are a lot of very promising cells on the horizon.
I think more people will be doing copper nickel sandwich, as fewer cells per Pgroup will be as capable.
The BAK45D does not have the Anode weld spiral like JP40, RS40, RS50, 40PL, 50PL, but one still needs to avoid spot welding the center. I avoided a 6mm diameter in the center. Mooch posted some tear down pics of the Internals for his patrons.
