šŸŒ“ Go-FOC DV6 / PRO <High Current Dual ESC >

Is there a chance you have the old 5.2 version? Someone asked me for it the other day and I said I didnā€™t have it

I have normal 5.2 loaded on my DV6 pro with no issues

I have 5.2 on my DV6 but my new DV6 Pro arrived with 5.3 and I just gave it fresh 5.3, not downgraded. My old DV6 Pro is charcoal.

So you gave it ā€œnormalā€ 5.3? Or the 5.3 from their website?

Yeah default 5.3 ā€œno hw limitsā€

I wonder if maybe there are some other changes in their (makerx) no limits version

Maybe try the one from the Makerx website? I havenā€™t done it either so I have no idea, just offering options

Edit: Iā€™m not ignoring that Thunkarā€™s shipped with the issue, thatā€™s weird for sure

I might just. I have the enclosure open right now for some cable management work.

Bear in mind mine shipped with 5.3, but I installed it fresh anyway. At any rate, it is a regular DV6 (not pro) and the default 60 firmware version should be okā€¦

Iā€™ve been doing some reading and in the VESC forum I think @Venom121212 had some issues with his Stormcore (a lot more serious, though). But at some point he describes something like Iā€™m experiencing:

Iā€™ve opened a new issue on github because Iā€™m thinking this might be 5.03 related and not a problem with the DV6. Letā€™s see how it goes.

Oh well nevermind haha

I havenā€™t even had the thought cross my mind to use 5.3, Iā€™m fine with 5.2

Continuing with my streak of bad luck, I recommended another friend an upgrade to the DV6 and his unit came in with a bad sensor port on one of the ESCs :disappointed:

We switched the motors to the opposite side and the problem follows the ESC. A multimeter revealed pin H1 is forced to ground and there are no apparent shorts or solder blobs on the boardā€¦he contacted support using the website, but no answer yet. @YUTW123 please PM me if you see this!

BTW, I followed your advice and used MakerXā€™s VESC tool from their website for the other DV6. Itā€™s a lot better, but the motor sounds a bit off when starting from a standstillā€¦I wonder whatā€™s different in their version and hope itā€™s just different defaults, because the code should be public

Interestingā€¦ Yeah we hounded them to post the code before, idk what happened

@YUTW123 where is your source code posted?

Sorry late, have you tried using firmware version 5.2? The DV6 uses the original 60 firmware, while the PRO uses the modified firmware(Other firmware versions may burn the ESC), .

It can be downloaded here.

I havenā€™t tried 5.2, but I wanted to use 5.3 like I do on another DV6 that runs fine. Both units are regular DV6 (non-pro) and I used on both the official 60 version. I find it very weird that the one from your website manages to run better, but I did detection on the go with slightly warmer motorsā€¦maybe the problem is related to FOC parameters then.

At any rate if thereā€™s a problem with 5.3 I think it should be investigated for everyoneā€™s safety. Iā€™m willing to do some tests if you find anything!

Regarding the other broken DV6, my friend has also sent you an email to info@makerx-tech.com. Could you please check it out? Weā€™re pretty bummed his brand new DV6 doesnā€™t work :disappointed:

Wasnā€™t it forbidden to distribute the Vesc-tool itself from other than the official vesc tool page?

Letā€™s not complicate things more than we have to @xsynatic . Itā€™s open source so it doesnā€™t matter anyway.

Iā€™m genuinely asking since it was discussed at some point iirc.

I think itā€™s just like the FW. If you do distribute it, you must provide the source code in physical form upon request. Thatā€™s my understanding of the GPL, but I might be wrong.

If you do so, you need to add your branding, remove all VESC branding, offer sources and then service the Tool yourself.

@YUTW123 YOU MAY NOT DISTRIBUTE VESC-TOOL! This is software from Mr. Vedder and he distributes it via his channel. There are very good reasons to have it this way!

See it this way: It is branded software and only the brand owner or license holder can distribute products under that brand.

If you wish to distribute it, you need to use your own branding or simply link to VESC Project .

Thank you David for providing the source code to the firmware!

For anyone interested, I ran a file diff comparison between the official 5.03 HW60 release and the MakerX 5.03 DV6 PRO release.

The only files that were changed were in the hardware configuration parameters.

Shunt resistance value was changed and the motor currents were increased. Nothing else of note.
