Genuine Creality Ender 3 $144 with prime shipping

Two questions

First is auto home supposed to be off the print surface?

And second when I use the control board to electronically move the stepper motors along the axis they all move accordingly, but when I set the extruder to any number nothing happens, shouldn’t I see the wheel on the extruder move?

Yes, home should be right there.

Make sure the extruder stepper is plugged in first obviously.

Can you tell me the menu steps to get to the extruder setting you’re changing?

Just went to prepare, move axis, extruder, turn the knob under any of the mm measured settings and nothing.

Safety feature where the extruder won’t move unless nozzle temp is up?

Also need to square up a bit, my gantry sags like a mother on the right.

Yes. Min temp is default 190*

@Venom121212 I would suggest getting the SKR over the creality board. Still silent steppers but you get a 32 bit chip in the skr. Super easy to update the firmware too.

I took the BL touch out and it’s printing better than ever at 70mm/s. With the stock board, if I went over 60mm/s it would stutter trying to process gcode over usb/octoprint. With the new 32 bit board it’s sooooo smooth

Got a warped bed😒 guess I’m off to the hardware store for a glass. Did the bed level with paper in the corners and the nozzle is much further away from the center

Damn that sucks.

Lol I’m a dummy, I got a 10” piece of glass, I thought the bed was 10 inch, nope.

Anyhow I took the paper that had the QR code on it and cut it in half and laid it under the surface and put the binder clips back on. Perfectly level in the center now. Temporary fix, it will prob mess with the bed heat having the paper there.

The thickness of the glass is also very important so be sure to look up exactly what you need

Get mirror tiles from Home Depot or Lowe’s. Mirrors are by design very flat. You could cut them just like glass. 6 packs are $10 for 12x12 they may sell smaller

I’ll prob just skip the Home Depot glass and order the right part

There are glass beds on amazon for $10

A proper glass bed is borscillate glass (similar time Pyrex cooking stuff). But mirror tiles work great

I did see the packs of mirrors, I’ll research made for the ender 3 beds vs mirrors

Also be sure to either order thermal pads or bigger binder clips.
The binder clips that came with my ender 3 are kind of being bent out of shape to get around the glass.

You also can require different build surfaces for different materials to stick to. Most materials do well with buildtak/ stock creality. Some like glass. Some have other requirements.

I have a PEI sheet, a magnetic removable sheet and several bare mirrors. I switch them out regularly depending what I’m printing

I’ve been having really good results lately with the stock printing pad on PLA.
So much so that I haven’t bothered putting my glass bed on yet.

What’s recommendations for printing petg?

PLA sticks pretty well to almost all build sheets, bare glass, glue, magnetic sheets, pei etc. it’s the easy filament.

PETG has a tendency to stick too well. Large parts on bare glass will actually rupture the glass as they cool because they’re stuck so hard to the surface. On many build platforms, they can tear the build surface off when removing from sticking too well.

ABS, nylon and PC can be temperamental.

I will say, a 50/50 mix of elmers glue and water brushed onto mirror tiles works for almost everything for me.

Would blue painter’s tape be a good option for petg so it’s easy to remove?
