It seems to take about 3 seconds to ramp to full, so I’d say just trash the remote. The VX2 is garbage in other way too anyways.
I don’t think it’s pwm vs uart, it only works one way. What is weird is I have to set it up as Nrf Nyko Kama remote to work.
I tried that and it both didn’t change what shows up in VESC tool, and doesn’t make (much) of a difference in testing.
That’s true. This lag wasn’t always there and I have no cutouts so I was going to keep it a little longer until a gbremote option or a good deal on Maytech dual trigger or vx3.
If it’s most likely somehow caused by the remote itself then it’s not important and the tech support from you all is more needed elsewhere, but I would appreciate more theories.
I’ve never tried using them, but IIRC the VX2 has holes on the receiver PCB for PPM, but doesn’t have pins soldered in. If you wanted to investigate further, you could try soldering wires or pins to those holes on the receiver and see if it behaves the same in PPM.
As far as the source of the issue, I’d say it definitely seems to be the remote. I’d try checking the remote’s settings, then maybe check the ppm on the receiver, and/or see if there is a way to hard reset the remote. I’m not 100%, but idk that they actually fully turn off when “off.” It could just be a standby of some kind.
In my experience, VX2s have horrible QC, and you can’t expect anything to be the same between different units. I’ve had two, and one was actually pretty good, while the other is 100% going to kill someone if used for any extended period.
That’s clever, any chance you know where on here it can take ppm?
And I realised I’m able to change whether the remote is set to FSESC or FOCBOX so maybe if I switch which one of those it uses I can set the remote up in vesc tool as a uart or ppm rather than nrf.
It doesn’t decode PPM. It decodes PWM on the SERVO pin. VESC mislabels it, so that’s probably why they labeled it SERVO.
Yeah, if you want to try it, you connect the gnd, 5v, and servo on the esc to the gnd, 5v, and ppm on the receiver. I don’t know for a fact that it actually works, but there is a spot on the receiver for it that doesn’t have a wire:
Also, just plugging it in normally and then running a wire from PPM to just the servo pin should work I’m fairly certain and then the remote should be usable in both UART and PPM.
I think the servo plug is for plugging a servo into, like with a kaly xlr.
Should I take out the wire between receiver tx and vesc rx?
It’s not that. You could write custom firmware to make it do that if you feel so inclined.
The VESC is the “servo” in this scenario.
You can leave the wire there and not use it in software, or remove it, your choice.
I’ve been using my little 12s2p for a lil mini bike I’ve been building, its a 48v-52v controller and I’ve only test like 2-3 times with my 120 lbs self going across my drive way for like 5 minutes max pretty slowly, charging between uses each time, and I was just charging it and I walked back in my room and I smelled a almost burning adhesive stench, the battery appears to have heated up in a corner and melted through the wrapping a lil bit. Don’t really understand how that could happen, this was my little jump pack, hope it is ok or repairable… anybody know how to diagnose? It’s 8.2ah p42a, charging on a 4a charger. I’m not 100% sure that that tear and burnt part is new, but it’s the only thing I could think of to make that smell and it seems to coincidental.
What bms is in it do you know?
I got it from @andoug about a year ago I believe, I’m not completely sure but I think it’s a meepo pack.
I would carefully peel back the wrap there and see what’s underneath.
Ok ![]()
Chat gpt is already saying ditch it.
Assess it
@Dnollie yeah I’d carefully peel the wrap and check for internal damage. Sometimes it could be just the paper burning and battery would still be fine. Glad you caught it before it got worst.
As a professional adult who is constantly dealing with people younger and older overly relying on AI answers, please don’t make it your go to as an initial reference check. Aside from often being wrong, it comes off as very lazy and uninformed. Worth keeping in mind as you grow and develop into your own adult self, homie.
If you’re saying the servo can do both that’s definitely possible and thank you, but it can definitely be used for controlling servos as seen in the similar conversation that happened recently. Spintend does say its compatible with ppm receivers, my guess would be rx in the nrf plug or the uart rx and setting vesc tool from uart to ppm.
Ubox V2.1 75V 200A Dual Motor Controller Based on VESC – Spintend says “RC PPM inputs / outputs”, I assume the enable servo output setting mentioned in that thread switches this from input to output, and you can use that as an input as long as enable servo output is false. I’m not 100%, and Spintend doesn’t have documentation I can find, though.
