not sure how she mounted it. But you might be able to ask her on IG, Dina_katch

How many amps should I do? I’m running 80a per motor right now

Filmed this with a Insta 360 x2

Simple VHB GoPro mount. There’s some photos of it somewhere in my ankle wreacher thread

Is this ok

I feel like it’s really wrong but it’s what chat gpt guided me to set it as and it referenced the forum :joy:

What ESC and battery are you using?

I usually set each side to about - motor current around 110, brake current around -60, absolute current at 200, battery current at 80 and around -25 regen

I had it lower and there was absolutely no torque, maybe because of something else though

Which setting was lower?

Motor current max, but I think the problem I had was that the absolute max was below the max motor current, I haven’t ridden after changing so I’ll test now. I just wanted to make sure this was all within the capability of my parts.

And then these are my vx4 settings

Your motor current max is very high for 6380 tb motors. I thought they were rated for ~95 amps. Check the spec sheet for the motors and the dv pro. Your battery amps are probably too high as well.

I’ve been following the guide from this thread for my VESC current / battery setting calculations and so far it seems to have worked out well. I’m not high-end tuning though. The brakes especially have been way better than what they get left at from the wizard.

Yeah I guess they are! So tune down to 80a or so per side.

Motor currents are fine at 170A tbh, keeping them high doesn’t rl do anything unless you full throttle from a stand still. I’d reduce the Motor Current Brake to -100A first for low speed brake and then increase from there. Keep battery current max at 60A or lower, I forgot how much the Dv6 Pro can handle but that’s a good starting point. Battery Current Max Regen, keep that at -40A and then increase from there, -60A is quite high if you’re not used to it.

Make sure to calibrate your remote again when switching to a new VESC, either through Wizard tool or manual.

This is a BIG NO NO, always keep your Absolute Max Current higher than Motor Current Max by a good amount. If it’s lower you will have ABS Current Fault whenever you accelerate hard and the board will lock up.

I am for at least 1.5x as much abs as motor current max, but ideally 2x.

Technically good hardware can get by with less than 2x without ever throwing a fault, but what is actually good hardware from an engineering standpoint is very much up to debate talking about esk8s.

for those curious. the smiple why is:

ABS motor current max is:
ā€œif current gets above this I will blow the electronics, so at this point throw a fault and shut off nowā€

ABS motor curernt max is usually hardware specific, it’s usually set in the values you are receiving via hwconf when installing the hw specific firmware.

If motor current max is below this why would you ever get there?

because a motor controller only controls the duty cycle (how often it pulses full battery voltage at the motor) the current the motor draws is a function of the duty_cycle and the load. motor current is not direclty controlled, it’s observed, and duty_cycle is adjusted to bring it in line with desired motor current.

so .. in short, it can overshoot motor current max for brief periods of time while the ESC adjusts to hit the target. max.

so as @Dinnye mentioned you always need headroom between the abs max and motor max so you don’t get a fault and get a cutout and streetface.

also.. reminder, for esk8s adjust fault stop time setting to lower than default 500ms, (streetface) to say 100ms, (might survive, more chance of toasting esc, but not 50ms too much chance of toasting esc. )

As someone who thankfully read here to adjust that fault time before taking a first ride with VESC, and has gotten some 50ms jerks - pretty crazy it’s set 10x that after the wizard.

75ms seems like a great compromise for the fault stop time because it seems to not throw you off balance too badly while still allowing you to feel the cutout so you can take appropriate actions.

Fuck a PCB, I like my current quantity of bones. I use 50ms
