GB Remote Lite - Open Source VESC remote

Are the Gerber files for the remote PCB available so we could reproduce the remote at home?

the V1 was some pre built modules soldered together so no pcb,
for V2 i’m still deciding if i’ll open source so no schematics in the mean time

having the gerber files how would you reproduce at home ? assemble and test everything?

I was asking about the PCB files to replicate version 1 . I really want to understand how all the components work. I just learned SolidWorks and got SW25 and I got SolidWorks PCB 2025 and I wanted to design my own Remote Control. I already have the step files for all the components as of now and I’m about done with my first version, mine has a joystick PCB and trigger.Hopefully I’ll be able to manage the fitting part

STOP RIDING THE V1 REMOTE!!!

Your brakes might stop working at any moment!

The remote might turn off randomly!!

The reset button for the ESP in the v1 remote is mounted to close to the housing without proper spacing. This will make the ESP turn off with no option for turning on again without dissembling the housing and forcing them apart.

The reset button dose not care if you need breaks or if your standing still. it MIGHT randomly turn off and stay off intermittently

If you have any questions, just ask. i have my remote disassembled right now. preferably in the discord

Also the resistor for measuring the battery might also contact the programming pins witch might also lead to similar or worse problems but that’s a hole other can of worms

I like my brakes. It’s one of my favorite things about electric skateboards😕

Hmmm I put this up for sale but the little diy guy in me wants to put the electronics from this project in this…. Choices choices

(I want to have a reason to throw the evolve electronics off a bridge)

yeah leaving the reset button from the esp module intact wasn’t that thoughtful of me, even tough I have used it for months every day and never had issues with it.

Might be good to open up the remote and remove the button

I have a list of customers who bought it, if they feel damaged we can arrange something.

Don’t worry, they did this for you already (Second story balcony good enough?)

I would be happy to take this route. Do you think you could share some pictures of how?

I’m working on a fix now, will send the part to everyone who bought the V1 so the en/reset button never gets pressed

Refreshing to see such a healthy response to such a situation and post. Thank you @georgebenett for being a good example.

Ok so I have a fix for it, will print and test today, and check how to ship to everyone who got the V1, also will release a video of how to replace the part.
this is the old one, no support for the esp32c3 module and no cutouts for the buttons:

Added button cutout, nicer external geometry and strain relief support for the antenna connector

no need for this, dual throttle and V2 lite are coming, pcbs are arriving this week:

This is a way for folks to get hurt. A public forum (like this one) is a much better place for this than a closed discord where information goes to die.

i need to further investigate this issue but it looks like the remote drains the battery on stand by, the low voltage from then battery causes a brownout and the mcu gets stuck into dfu mode, the only way to get out is pressing the reset button.

this issue is happening with 4 out of 6 units i have here, looks like the problem is in the esp32 module itself, so i will arrange V2 shippings for those who have problematic V1s

Exactly - as someone who just got into this recently and using secondhand parts, the amount of manufacturer specific info (especially ones that have ceased) preserved here has been invaluable
