Nice, will try that, thanks

And in other update, there still some ghosts in my printer, went to print the second spacer and again turned into a spaghetti mess, I had never before had layer shift happen in the 5+ years I have this printer, I’m starting to suspect the power supply is dying, and that was what was causing the arduino to reboot

At least the fifth version is perfect

Ahh layer shifts… Things to check for:

  • Power supply issue (you can up the voltage to the stepper motor in question a bit and the skipping may go away)

  • Belt tension being off

  • Rollers on the rails (if applicable) being too loose or tight, tighten or loosen eccentric nuts accordingly

  • Flow too high on lower levels, nozzle drags and gets off alignment

  • Ghosts :ghost:

Best of luck, following the progress on these

Why does your set look nicer than mine?

@Venom121212 thanks for the tips, only thing that I didn’t check is the pulleys, but the shift always happens at x and y axis at the same time, this is what leads me to believe that is the PSU, and now since the arduino is powered over USB it just keeps sending instructions without knowing the motors are off for a few instants

@Flasher because you use street tires, and not real tires that are for off road

Also it might be this is the new version of the spacers, give it a try

They’re from the same maker with the same rubber

I’ve got to find my spacers laying all around the house (kids had fun playing with them) and try a 10" install. Just waiting until I’ve retired the board for the season. Still using it for work

I’m waiting for a week that will rain to install, or do a sugar fueled install some night, 4 wheels, plus additional seal I want to install so I can take the falcons and motors through some mud and deep puddles, just some hours of work needed lol

Ah, and on top of that I have two hoverboard batteries on the way for a first test, if it works two more will come, and maybe 4 more later

@Venom121212 no luck with the ruller, but I found it I just pull it hard I can get it out without the adhesive unsticking, a bit afraid I might bend the top cover of the battery or crack the range extender battery case, at least I know it will work for the ebike also with just Velcro holding it

New PSU installed, it still skipped on the Y once but the carriage was colliding with the frame, just a bit of filing it and solved, also the belt was bit too tight

How I hate this acrylic frame, has 0 rigidity, deforms a lot with heat, breaks if you tighten it too much

There a chance that this collision was causing the supply that is near death to turn off for a second, I caught it on video, everything powered by it shuts down and comes back up

Next step would be to get a new ramps and new drivers, but if it gets to that point I’m thinking in saying screw it and getting a Prusa Mini, quite expensive, specially with shipping and taxes but I’m hoping for trouble free printing and many years. Also, I need a printer not just for my stuff, but for work sometimes, in the amount of hours I lost on this one would have paid itself probably

Another problem is that I’m moving quite far in a few months, so one more thing to put in the bag, this printer I would leave here or sell to a friend for barely anything and get the prusa later once I moved

Rant over lol

On another note, batteries arrived, not much I can do with them before fixing the printer to make some enclosures, maybe I will just use Velcro to slap them to the deck or enclosure for testing

One print worked, and I think I know what is happening, the Ramps use two polyfuses that are both on the edge of the rating, and they can degrade overtime, so they are probably momentarily tripping and disabling the whole 12v rail, if it stops again I will replace them with regular fuses

Now to print 6 more

Two tires installed, in reality, the 8” are around 188 mm and the 9” are 225 mm, the difference in ground clearance is huge, way better combo on such wide trucks such as the Hypertrucks, let’s hope I can go back to climbing curbs, with the Trampas it was possible in most cases, 8” with Hypertrucks no way, and now 9” TBD

9"s finally installed

Also did some nice upgrades on the Falcon drive, while it is pretty well sealed, it was never designed with MTB use in mind, let alone going into puddles and mud pits, which I have been avoiding due to that. Now it’s sealed everywhere and should be fine, I’m not going to ride under water for minutes at a time, but should be fine crossing most stuff I might come across

9" tires initial impressions

At first I didn’t notice much difference, but on the end of the ride, 8"s no more

The maybe bad first, on asphalt at high speed I had the impression the board was less stable and was feeling it start to wobble a bit, nothing that you can’t easily control, but I just noticed I peaked just shy of 40 km/h, I usually limit it to 30~35 km/h, so I probably screwed up when setting the new ERPM limits

I also have to play with tire pressure, right now I’m at 50 PSI, which is the maximum recommend to these tires, maybe increase it a bit

@Flasher @Venom121212 @rich and anyone else that run 9"s, what pressure you guys use?

Now to the most important question:
Can I go down curbs?

Hell yeah, this curb I couldn’t on Trampas on 8", only the less steep ones, up I have to try still

Sand is also no issue, a few posts above you can see my board stuck in this very same place on 8"s, now I can even stop in the middle of it and start going again, for now the 4WD idea is postponed

Consumption seems a bit higher but I purposefully went on the worst possible terrain to test, plus the too high top speed

Overall I very much like them, just need more batteries now, I didn’t bring the range extender because I didn’t want to test two new things at the same time, but wish I did, made a wrong turn in the woods and only realized long after, made home but barely

And I was going to try the seals, but let the silicone cure a bit more and also I wasn’t looking forward to cleaning the board after

Couldn’t tell ya. Im old fashioned by feel

What steps did you take to seal it up?

Retaining compound between the motor mounting plate and the hanger, silicone on both side of the case bearing, silicone between the wheel adapter and the wheel gear, a 3D printed piece that connects the wheel adapter the the MBS hub and silicone on that also, and silicone on the spacer that goes on the axle

Basically the Oprah meme for silicone

I keep it between 40 and 50 psi depending on how much offroading I’ll be doing vs how much range I need. The 9" look good on there :call_me_hand:

Thanks man

And I agree, HyperTrucks are made for 9", looks way better than 8", more proportional

I’m having second thoughts about how to put the hoverboard batteries

This looks ridiculous, but this is the size it got to be if I want to but 2 batteries in front of the case and two on the back
Maybe for now I will do one front and one back, not two or the front and leave room for two on the back

With two my range should go from 29 km to close to 50 km, with my range extender maybe 60 km

This looks better, ditched the screws, will just glue it shut to save space

And also with the pack vertically oriented, think I will go this way to save more space for the feet

Longest ride ever with this board and first ride with the range extender, went some places I always wanted to go since forever but never could due to lack of range

39 km in total, and with the last hill close to home in limp mode, not great not terrible

Total batteries are 10S5P of VTC6 of doubtful precedence and a 6S4P of NCR18650B that were from my first board, I think last discharge test I got 2900 mAh out of each cell

I was expecting a bit more range

Some cool places, got an escort from an ambulance for a few kilometers on a road because the driver loved the board and wanted to see it riding, really good, because I was testing if I was getting speed wobbles

Also found a guy trying to get his run away cows in the middle of a crop with his car, was quite hilarious to watch
