A couple more holes, trimming some bolts and a powder coating and the battery/ ESC truck will be done.

So my son’s kart is stepped up on the voltage and tire size thanks to @Savage1’s custom hub.

It’s plenty fast, maybe too fast even. But the biggest issue is how touchy the steering is. It’s overly responsive at speed to the point where it’s borderline speed wobbling the front end.

The mechanism looks like this:

I’m wondering if there is a way I can “tone down” the steering.

@CHAINMAILLEKID sorry for the random tag but I feel like I maybe read some steering mechanics posts by you.

Lol I saw him speeding up at the end and I was like daaaang

How does it corner? Have you tried to ride it?

Yeah the acceleration isn’t crazy because the stock motor is pretty weak still but it gets me going up to about 20 or so. The turning is wayyyy tight. Like 180 in the street tight.

Oh jeez haha sounds like flipping over if you turn that at high speed

I’m not an expert, but I imagine a dampener/stabilizer could help.

Oooh that looks like what I was thinking! Thanks for the link so I have a search reference.

I’ve not messed with karts before.

But I expect if its getting wobbles then the front doesn’t have enough of a caster angle.
The linkages in front of each wheel in kart I think are called the knuckles, and they’re normally swept back a certain amount.

I think…

You could tune down the steering through shortening the length of the bar connecting the steering shaft to the linkages, but if its having problems being stable going in a straight line then I suspect more steering geometry than control sensitivity.

Excellent, I thought that shortening it might reduce the travel. I appreciate the input and will see what I find out.

It will definitely reduce travel.

How much were the custom hubs?? I recently got my son a Rad Rod and want to swap out the rear wheels.

Ah man, hard to say since Phil is a friend and was doing them in his free time.

Damn, he doesn’t make them anymore? The plastic wheels are the worst :weary:
