found full ceramic bearings 5.00 each

I found full ceramic bearings at 5 each. On Aliexpress. They need no lube. I think they are useable, in builds that have pneumatic tires. These are 40ish or more from US suppliers. Or more. They are fully waterproof.

I will let Yall know how they work out. Oh, these are 6900 bearings, for 10mm axles.

Think it’s because full ceramic bearings can’t take impacts too well. You’ll want the ones with steel housing and ceramic balls

Right, thats why I said I think they can be used on pneumies.

Ceramics don’t provide a significant benefit since the resistance of steel is so low compared to motor power, but when ceramic bearings fail it’s catastrophic

Ceramic on ceramic is possibly something thats not desirable

Here is a nice little explanation:

They will still shatter. Ceramic cant handle strain at all, under any kind of shock loading it will just fail.

When the bearing shatters either your wheel locks up and you get yeeted off the board or the wheel falls off and you get yeeted off the board

Pneumatics is actually worse because they brake harder when locked than urethane and it’s a bigger drop if they fall off

ceramic is brittle

it’ll explode on your first bump and any damage will cause it to also explode at speed

use normal sealed steel bearings, and if you’re that worried about water, assuming you ride like me

just open them, clean them out completely and put your own grease in

i’ve never had to deal with any corrosion on my wheel bearings in the year+ of having these and i’ven’t even greased them myself before putting them on

Got it. I also got some ceramics with steel outsides, are those also too brittle?

no full ceramics period

Here is some calculations:

https://www.skf.com/sg/products/rolling-bearings/ball-bearings/deep-groove-ball-bearings/productid-608

This bearing is rated for 48000rpm.

Pneummie being 200mm diameter usually.

200*3.14= 628mm circumference.

48000*628= 30.144.000 mm/min

30.144.00*60= 1.808.640.000 mm/h

1.808.640.000/1.000.000 = 1808.64 Km/h

0.25*1808 =452 Km/h

So technically you would be safe rotations wise. I would still NOT advise this since this is without bumps etc.

Also this drastically changes when you have a smaller diameter wheel.
