I’ve had an older Atlas 4WD belt drive for a few years and the only things I didn’t like about it were snow and mud getting jammed up in the belt drives, sometimes causing the belts to snap, and I also wanted more low end torque. This solves both issues with the gear drives and larger motors, though I may eventually buy an even higher ratio gear set for them, but I’m still playing with settings.
Out of the box it was definitely faster than my old Atlas but didn’t feel quite right. I messed with the app and made it worse somehow, (not a fan of the app setup), but eventually noticed that the motor and wheel gear counts were both set to 20. Set them to 18 and 68 using the remote and it really woke the board up. (Had to go through the setup twice as the first time it only applied to the rear motor, not sure why doing the exact same thing again made them both work but it did). Also out of the box the board went backwards from what I expected when looking at the forward arrow on the front truck with the remote switch in the forward position but was also able to switch that in the remote setup. Braking is insane, I’m on level 2 right now, 3 will lock them up, and I think it goes to 10.
Have to say I’m not a huge fan of the Rexus remote, nice screen and thumb wheel, but I hate the trigger, which I have disabled, but it still feels weird as it clicks when I grab the remote and makes it feel as if I’ve done something. Wondering if I can open up the remote and remove the trigger completely without screwing it up. Maybe I’ll get used to it after some time, too cold to do more than short test rides right now.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been interested in a four wheel drive after braking too hard and having the rear wheels lockup on me. How does the braking feel like compared?
I have to say I have the same feeling on the Rexus. The big display looks great, it’s super bright and easy to read but the trigger is in such a weird position (when wearing the gloves) I have to hold the remote almost horizontal to keep the constant pressure on the trigger switch.
4wd braking you have to anticipate it more when braking hard. You can really slam on the brakes, but you definitely don’t wanna do it too hard that it’ll lock up the front
Level 2 braking is controllable, I don’t think it will lock up unless going fast on loose ground. I’ll probably move up to level 3 after some practice.
Seems like with shipping, VAT, and tariffs the Trampa’s aren’t a great deal anymore. Looks like the next best thing in an 8” x 2” off road tire is the MBS? Any better, more aggressive options?
I bit the bullet and ordered the Mudpluggers, got them today and mounted them. Of course since I ordered them the cold snowy winter we were having just became warmer than usual and all the snow melted.
