I just got the Energetic magnetic PEI surface from Aliexpress that I talked about earlier i this thread. Overall looks quite decent quality, and the magnets are pretty strong. It makes my CR10 look tiny next to it, as it will be meant for a 400mm Hypercube Evo
I also got it at the end. I chose the 310x310mm to fit the plate. Still waiting delivery though
Hey guys, for those who have a direct drive, What arenât the most important print settings to change? Im think of speed and retraction for instance?
I only change the retraction. For PETG 0.4mm(40mm/sec retraction + 70mm/sec prime speed ) has no oozing and 0.3 has minor oozing.
Whatâs is your printing speed for PETG ? Mine 40/50
0.4mm z hop when it retracts.
Temp:250
Cooling off
First layer 10mm/sec(otherwise small circles donât print after retraction)
3rd layer and above 40mm/sec
Line width 0.44 with 0.4mm nozzle.
Pointed nozzles are best for PETG because it doesnât interact with already printed stuff.
Got the bed. The other parts for the upgrade should arrive this week⌠Lokking forward. Now I am think if using the bed with the paper clip or install the 3m magnet bad plate. What I donât like is remove the glue later on if I want to change the printing surface.
I guess it would be a good idea to just use the paper clips while youâre testing it, as if you will apply and
then remove the magnetic sheet, Iâm sure you wonât be able to apply it properly once more.
If you find that the PEI sheet does not hold the prints well and the isopropyl alcohol does not help, give it a very light sanding with steel wool or high grit sandpaper.
I am already using PEI sheet for the past year and itâs the best printing surface so far. Mine as the inconvenience that detachs a bit at 100C printing bed so everytime I have to flat tit doe again. Thatâs why I went for 5his one thst is rated for high temperature.
Paper clips I think is better for me since the layer would be just above the metal hot plate so the heat will be transfer way faster than through 3mm of magnetic sheet.
Now waiting the direct drive to come so I an spend a weekend try to assemble them. Do you guys use a particular mounting for it? I was looking at the petsfang mount. I already using it with the bowden tube set up and I like it.
Petsfang Direct for E3D Titan Direct Extruder for Micro Swiss/ E3Dv6/ or Stock CR10 & Tevo Tornado hot ends found on #Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2907538
I designed my mount myself as all of the ones that were available at the time were lacking some features. Mine uses bolts and nuts for every part, and does not use threads into plastic at all. Also the V6 is directly inserted into the BMG, unlike a lot of the available ones, and the V6 is held from the top and bottom to the mount to reduce vibrations. Also I use the prusa style angled 5015 part cooling fan as I find it works pretty well.
I only designed it for personal use, so I designed it quickly and did not pay much attention to the tolerances etc as I could just sand or cut bits of plastic. If you are interested in the files, I can refine it a bit first to make sure it fits well. It requires slightly longer bolts for the BMG to stepper connection than original. I didnât have any, so I just drilled a few mm into the BMG to be able to use the ones that come by default.
Edit: the one you linked is for a Titan extruder. Do you have a Titan, Titan Aero or BMG?
If its flexible the magnets may help keep it flat.
If you want another surface, buy another sheet!
Oh one thing, the earlier prusa sheets would rust under the pei after a while, at the edges. Newer sheets have some anti corrosion treatment. Try to keep the edges dry.
Would be amazing if you can share your parts! Mind sharing the step so we can adjust it if needed? Thx so much!
Btw what fw are you using? Any particular config other than the one needed for BLTouch?
Looks solid! I like it, yes I would be more than interested in getting the files. I have the some fans already and tons of bolts so no problem to use different ones
I have the V6 + BMG.
No maybe you didnt see the picture the magnet sheet goes on top of metal plate from the printer with a 3M adhesive tape. That is the one that I am not sure to use it or not since I do not like to get glue on the metal plate. Afterwards would be a nightmare to remove it. I will try with the steel+PEI on top combo directly on the metal plate and paper clip. The sheet is already rather solid by itself.
Thanks for the input concerning the edges. I thought about seems it looks like naked steel underneath.
Going to quickly fix up the small issues that I had with it and will share the .step and STLs for it. Also forgot to mention it uses a 40mm fan to cool the V6. I use a 20mm thick Noctua, but a standard 10mm will probably be enough too.
I am using the TH3D with some small changes in the Marlin itself, mainly to get the bed leveling to be quicker, but that is of course unnecessary. All you need is a firmware with BLtouch support for this mount, and then to change the extruder steps to 415 but you can do that afterwards.
The steel plate by itself is pretty flexible, so if you use the plate with no magnets, and only held through clips at the side, it might bend outwards in the middle during large prints.
If the glue residue is the problem, isopropyl alcohol should remove it, or otherwise you could get some better specialised solutions like âGoo Goneâ etc.
True. Well I will see if I have problem. I will also use TH3D firmware. I prepare it. I hope I cna get it works just fine.
I think I adjusted pretty much all the tolerances now. It should also now work with the original BMG - Stepper bolts. The STEP file is included if you want to make some changes. Enjoy.
Printing nylon 910 for the very first time. All settings same as PETG, only temp at 260C and flow at 100%. Printing a 6x2 wheel hub, to replace the broken PETG one, letâs see.
Setting:
Build Plate: Tempered glass coated in gluestick(i.e. PVA)
Nozzle: 0.4mm
Line width: 0.48mm
Nozzle Temp: 260C
Bed Temp: 70C
Speed: Layer1:15mm/sec Layer3(&above) 35mm/sec
Retraction: 0.5mm
Retraction speed: 40mm/sec
Retraction prime speed: 70mm/sec
Cooling: off
Thanks a lot! I will post once done.
