Efoil and Jetsurf builds

Decided I want to build either, or eventually both, types of e-surfboard over the winter. I’ve found the builders forum and seen a few of the more recognisable avatars from here over there.

My question here, before I introduce myself there, is have any of you done this already, what was your experience, and were you happy with your creations?

I’ve watched all the vendor vids on YT though feel some of them have ‘Evolve style’ claims and marketing tactics.

Not looking at a budget build, just the best parts for the correct money. At this early stage I’m just after qualified advice over my own constant Web trawling

Cheers,
Tony

I joined over there but have been slack. A jet surf is on my list for sure. I think @BigBen has either started one or is planning one?

I too have trolled the YT vids but shit are they spendy some of the pre builts. Same sort of money you’d pay for a decent ski.

Have you ever ridden one? I tried out a 2 stroke version last year and man it was so much fun.

Yeah the prebuilts are big coin for sure, the drive train parts seem reasonable considering the niche is even smaller than esk8.

I haven’t ridden one as yet, but I was a level 4 windsurfer in my 20s, even an instructor at one point, and have surfed a bit when I lived in OZ for a while. Pretty sure I’d be OK with a JetSurf, though the efoil looks trickier to master I reckon.

Either way it looks like a lot of fun and I can’t see any set of circumstances where I don’t end up with an esurf in my life soon

Hey Tony, we’ve built a foil. A bit agricultural but it worked.
We’ve all been so busy and never got much further with it.
I’m looking at jet surfs now too.

Check out this chap.
I get the feeling this is his local duck pond.
I don’t think he’s a million miles from you @Toughook

Same here mate. I still get out now and then. My family actually owned a windsurfing and watersports business so I grew up on the things. These jetsurfs are easy as pie to ride if you have the tether remote like the petrol versions. Not sure how I’d go with a wireless remote though but however hard it is it can not be anywhere near as hard as learning to bloody windsurf thats for damn sure and man they are fun.

@Nacho thats the one I rode last year. Guy was promoting them at my local beach. They’re not crazy money for the IC version.

Just met a guy who has a prebuilt. It is carbon fiber and really sweet, but he spent $13,100 on it… That’s not chump change!

That sounds like the esurf. 20 grand aus with 2 batteries. Built in Switzerland or somewhere. Weighs fuck all. Something about 60v dc and water gives me the heebie jeebies tho…

Makes sense as they were the first company to bring out a surfboard under power. US (this was bollocks its Czech based) company I believe and it looks like they blagged the design straight off the Swedes lol. It doesn’t look like the Malmo firm actually got into production so maybe a little buy out happened. Its very similar.

This is where I live.

Top pic is the bar to the ocean and the bottom shows the passage around the island to the lower bar. 40 km of pristine winding waterway. I ride it on my ski and the scenery is unreal. Looks like good jetsurf territory hey?

I am building my efoil for almost 2 years now. Last summer, I had 2 min ride and then fire because I took waterproofing for granted. Fortunately, battery didn’t take any water damage, only esc (maytech 200A) and metr module were destroyed.

This year, I am making my board with pro kayak builder. We are making molds for hollow waterproof board, which should be really lightweight with big space (whole board) for electronics. As far as it goes, I think I will have first real ride this winter. I am so hyped for this efoil for so long that I don’t even care if it snows when I take my first ride

That’s really cool, and now I want to take one of those up and down the Mississippi river.

I am so sorry mate but this statement made me spit my beer. A water craft with taken for granted waterproofing? @b264 I know you are twitching right now. lol

I know, I know, costly mistake. I just wanted to test ride it and those “small leaks” were not so small when board was underwater with my weight over it. Electronics were in waterproof boxes, which were not so waterproof at the end. Live to learn and be patient.

I am just being a dick brother. I have never built one of these things so ignore my jabs. Credit to you for actually doing it.
