How much did it cost to make actual hollow boards from those molds? I’ve been seriously interested in trying to build an efoil myself because I’m always near the water but I don’t want to buy a premade shell for several hundreds of dollars

I am not sure how expensive just hollow board will be, but I don’t expect much more than 100-150 euro for material only. I have to make few more decisions about waterproof door, which will affect price too. Molds will cost, but that’s one time cost.
You can build nice board with XPS or EPS as base for about same price or even less. Efoil builders forum is full of homemade boards, some are so nice that person could easly mistake them for production boards.

I’m helping a friend to build his own eFoil. He started 2 years ago and still haven’t tested it in real conditions.
Those builds are serious DIY !

Yup. Thing is, in efoil, you can build almost everything by yourself. Wings, mast, motor enclosure, whole board, everything.
On the other side, you can buy part by part and connect then together.
If you decide to do it all by yourself, it will take some time and some new skills to learn. But it’s great fun! Especially when you have to clean every part of your house from EPS dust

Efoils and Jetboards are a niche market.
It is just a little bit like esk8 ±4 years ago. Not many guys on the forum, each time new parts. Parts that need some extra improvements.
Building a efoil is on my schedule for this winter 
We have at this moment ±10 dutch guys who are running DIY efoils.

I just read over the whole @pacificmeister Hydrofoil build thread on his forum, doesn’t seem that expensive of an adventure when you use his whole setup. It’s all easy to make at home if you’ve got access to a 3D printer. He just used an old Foam top surfboard, routed out two slots for the battery and Vesc. Some waterproof boxes and some epoxy. Drivetrain was all in a 3D printed casing that clamps onto a Liquid Force 2016 90-91cm hydrofoil mast.

I can see it now. One motor will not be enough. 20 mph will not be enough. I will need a dual drive with water cooled ESC!!!

Shame that the leash/tether is so restrictive. In those videos you see plenty of examples where the front arm would happily go further away for a more natural balance in the turns but it is constrained by that tether. That kind of takes the “surf” away from the esurf!
That, and a heavy ass that makes it not really suitable for jumps. Considering this, you might as well go for the foil option, which will have a nicer feeling on mild chop, and something like 3 times the range.

Well, I’ve had all the parts to make a jet drive and only now had time to do it. These parts have been laying around for 2+ years.

Only tested in the tub, so far. Just need a surfboard or similar. Trying not to spend too much money.

I was planning a build until I came across the Waydoo Flyer One. You could definitely build one cheaper, but not by much. It wouldn’t be nearly as good and the waterproofing headache is one I’m happy to avoid.
I’m riding these things a couple of times a week currently and while they still have a few small teething problems, it’s a quality platform, especially at that price (€5500).
If anyone’s interested in a test ride (Amsterdam, NL), let me know.

Bump… I got the chance to ride one today. My buddy invited me to Lake Mead to wakesurf and do dumb stuff… A guy on the docks let us rip his Lift foil around and HOLY CRAP was it fun. I looked at the price of a Lift after that and well, time to look into DIY options
