DV6S Can-bus failure after inverting motors

You’re not using bluetooth to change settings are you? If so, don’t. Hardwire with usb cable. Bluetooth on Maker X has been nothing but dramas for me.

hardwired, i dont have a bt mod yet

no faults, in debug theres a " Status: Serial port error: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request." but im not sure if its associated. hopefully they can get this fixed, ive waited too long for this to be done lmfao. and i’ll try their whatsapp soon, i sent a email earlier, but im not sure of their working times

I sent David at MakerX an E-Mail, but he never answered. But on WhatsApp, I sent him a text and he responded in a few hours.

did they manage to fix the issue? was it the firmware?

I really don’t know what caused my problem. I was trouble-shooting an trouble-shooting, and eventually the DRV Chip blew on 1 side of the VESC. So I texted MakerX to see if they could repair it. Their answer was “yes”, so I am sending it to China for repair. I have another VESC to use, so the repaired one will be a spare.

gotcha, i shot them a message yesterday via whatsapp, hopefully they follow through, how much was the shipping btw? This all really blows, youd think itd be about flawless at this point, & for the price, payed for an upgrade, and this esc failed faster than my old lingyi

they managed to help! It was a stupid stupid problem too, i had set the can side to toggle button so that was the issue, its supposed to be on always on lol

Vesc tool is infuriating like this. There are infinite ways to fuck up. Did you have “Multiple escs over can” set to off?

Can you take a screenshot to describe what was wrong?

ran into a new issue after the fix, i went to test my one motor (thats older) and i clicked load default parameters. and not the can-bus is no longer connecting, ill take a screenshot of the fix on the last problem, but this shit blows chunks man );

edit: the support at makerx is unmatched, theyve helped with literally every issue lol. glad I went with them tbh, they went as far as connecting to my computer to fix the problem! beautiful

Always say no “load default parameters”. You probably just need to connect to the other esc, and toggle “multiple escs over can” to on.

gotcha, ended up fixing it. yea thats the button of doom man, unreal, that singular button has caused all of my issues above lol! managed to get both cans to work again, one motor has lower amp max so im probably going to replace it. but i finally get to test this jawn!

Mental State When Doing a New Set-Up:

I found that it is important to take your time when setting-up a new board. I mean, take each step slowly, step away, think about it, then come back. It is really easy to get frustrated with a set-up and then that’s when mistakes start to snowball.

I’ve stepped away before, came back a day later, and then everything was a lot clearer.

assuming you are using the same motors, just ignore the detection settings, and set it to whatever you want (within reason)

gotcha, i tried to do a ride test, and unfortunately its a fail. Both of the motors spin, but with my weight on it (170lb) the motor is locking at a slow speed, ill try to get a video in here

ahh that’s weird. I have never seen that before. Looks like an ESC issue rather than a motor issue, but I don’t really know.

the makerx support said its probably because of 6.02 you need to manually raise abs current. this is a new issue that didnt happen first run. im going to change firmware and see whats up

edit: I believe the update fixed it. now going to do a test run

alrighty, so i managed to get it working, but theres just a couple things id like to clear up. two things specifically. One of my motors apparently has a low resistance according to makerx support. that motor gets really hot compared to my other motor. is this a sign to get a new motor? the pully is kinda tight, the stock one has minimal range. I bought the motors used so chances are its shot. & two being the inital torque is incredible low, and it take a bit of time to build speed, is there a way to change that in settings? after a certain threshold it hauls ass though

what are your start up settings? Are you running it sensored or some form or sensorless start?
