So when can we order these this waiting is killing me ??

You can already order, won’t arrive any quicker tho. They look awesome and Doug seems to be doing it right :call_me_hand:

Yes but how long till they are finished?

as soon as they are done.

When they are ready. (Shit answer I know).

Great to see Doug is proactive in addressing issues which come up like the unexpected heat problem, rather than rushing to hit a date with a flawed product.

Yes I agree safety and reliability is awesome
(but I just want them now)

It will be worth the wait. Thanks again for being an innovator!

Hey Nacho,

For your convenience, here is the latest update (you can also scroll up on my latest big update): Hollow Wheel Manufacturing and Shipping Update #16 – Momentum-Boards

TLDR: A bit over a month if it is just a material change. A couple to 3 months if I have to do tooling. This is shipping from the manufacturer… shipping from China (air or sea is something that does add more time).

Right now I am having new materials coming that have a lot higher… high temperature stability and higher melting point. I am trying to not change the tooling since it just will take a lot longer and also introducing another variable makes it harder to analyze the durability data (for instance: how much more durability is added).

Materials are starting to trickle in this week (different ones than the TPU) and also the TPU manufacturer are reformulating my TPU to increase strength at high temp (I think I have about 9 revisions with them so far… I don’t recall off the top of my head). The TPU manufacturer are working on the new formulation and I keep bugging them on a timeline. I am also working with other manufacturers as well, other materials which are already off the shelf. So those are coming in faster, but I just have to find one more core material since I have to match materials with very strong chemical bond so I don’t fall into the same durability issue of batch 2.

I’ve spent the past 8-10 months absolutely beating the crap out of these wheels and have had some people riding them and putting miles on them too. For me, I am 170-180lbs with all gear and I haven’t broken a single wheel, however, there is just a weakness of very large people and very hot days where this weakness shows it’s face. If you look closely, you see an increased amount of failed wheels made by other companies sporadically posted online (during the summer months or places that get a lot hotter during the summer) of issues like core delamination, which is usually caused by material overloading. When a material, Urethane, gets hot, it loses it’s strength. It starts to deform more (more strain). Then, things like core delamination (core coming off the soft thread or vise versa) become apparent.

When the skating industry started using Urethane, it was for long boards and skateboards which you kick. But with the advent of electric skateboards, people are going faster than ever and also carving at higher speeds. So this means you have more heat generated. So there has to be a lot of consideration of this aspect, which I have recently learned and one of which I am spending a lot of time and resources to fix. My goal is to release a very safe wheel and also one where I have very few warranty claims so it can earn a good reputation.

Hope all of that makes sense.

Doug

The fact that these are designed for electric is awesome in of itself. That jump in tech has specific hurdles that come with it, not all of which have been identified, let alone addressed. What works on a kick board does not necessarily translate. That is okay, it is normal and something to be expected in such a situation. These are all things that most people here know. But most of the people, at least here(assumption, I do not speak for anyone), that bought in to this? Were more interested in what you’re actually doing. Im not too heavy. The wheels would work for me, as is, I think. Thats why I said I’d love a beta set. But, I invested in this research youre doing more than your actual product. Thats why I dont mind the wait. I have every wheel I need, I just want these like you do.

Obligatory shameless plug: please put me on the test list when you get around to the next size up?! Lmfao<3

Get in line lol most of us want larger than 105

I think 120 is optimal - obviously we will see how they actually feel once we get em in hand

130mm is pretty nice

Once I get this formula right, I do want to make a larger wheel like 120 or 130. Maybe even a 165mm

where do I sign???

I’m in!

Time for a revolving slush fund for wheel research. Doug is our man! Setup a patreon.

This is actually a good idea. Maybe loop it into a luxury wheel warranty that has discounts for new models etc. I’d sign up. Not enough esk8 wheels out there.

Emphasis on esk8 wheels

The only ones really designed for esk8 are the TB 110’s as far as I’m concerned

And Hummie’s but those are special case. The rest of them are just normal wheels that we’re using for electric boards

I disagree now that the cores are delaminating

I mean I chock that up to a bad batch

We have tons of them with thousands of miles

I mean the 107 was custom ordered for Evolve…

Dang! had no idea you would go over 150mm
