Difficulties programming my VESC(s)

Hello,
I finally put the last drop of solder on my project and I’m ready to start the configuration. My setup is a double FSESC6.6 with two C6364 outrunners (not sensored) powered up with two 10S4Ah (35-70C) turnigy Lipo in parallel.

I connected my VESC to VESC-tools (v6.05 in linux). I managed to connect the VESC HW to the VESC-Tools app but it tells me that the firmware is outdated and the the connection is limited in the available features.
When I try to run the motor detection, it ends up with the message :
”Cannot read motor configuration” and it does not spin the motor a all.

Is this problem coming from the firmware version ?
Which version shall I use ? I read that 5.2 is favored for the model if FSESC6.6

Sorry for the basic questions … I read a lot of stuff but there seem to be specificities for each ESC and I could not fund that much on this single FSESC6.6.

Also is there a way to know which version is currently installed ?

If you want to use firmware 5.2 you need vesc tool 3.00 . You can find it here Precompiled VESC Tool Archive

Many thanks !
This is really helpful !

You should update to the latest firmware. It’s just better

It is safe to do so even with this “no so recent“ VESC design ?

Yeah of course. Vesc 6 and vesc 4 architectures are by no means obsolete
