My 1st thread. I hope I’m in the right place. You don’t seem shy, so I’ll findout soon enough. I’m a fatty! Yep, I said it, 280lbs 6”4” tall. The obvious problem is finding a board I won’t have to replace every few months. The Demon 2.0 has decent parts, but without finding a board that doesn’t cry when I get near it is my goal. Gotta have goals.
I skated, surfed, & BMX’d my whole life, but I’m old and broken. I refuse to sit around waiting to die, so I’m getting back on a board. All I want to do is carve all day until my knees give out. Not going off-road, just carving around the Emerald Coast.
So when I break this board, I’ll start my DIY build. Until then, I’m hoping to pick up your vibe and learn what would be good for a fatty from zero to hero. Trucks and board!
Thank you for having me, and I got thick skin, so set me on fire if I’m out of place.
Hello fellow fatty! I think it’d be a great option given the price but I think if you’re gonna find the limit on power very quick given the 12s battery.
My first VESC board was actually a demon from them as well and that battery kinda sucks, ngl. How are the road conditions around you?
I don’t have experience with pre-built boards to tell you which ones are good for a heavier guy, but I know that @tomiboi from here can build you one of his decks with reinforcement tailored to your weight. I have one of his 44 in decks that doesn’t flex at all under my 240 lbs, feels bulletproof.
In the price range I would say there’s lots of choices and just looking at my Acedeck N1, the deck is very stiff. I’m not sure on weight capacity but most boards I see it’s upwards of 300lbs, almost all vendors have this listed.
Just throwing this out, take a note of where you want to ride before making the purchase. My area is mixed, so I find larger street wheels 125mm and AT’s work best but some may have glass smooth asphalt where they can run 105’s with no issues.
Our roads are rough around Pensacola Fl. I’ve ordered the new max 125 wheels, hoping they will glide better over the cracks. Your absolutly spot on about the 12s. Im looking forward to building a new board.
Perfect, That board would be perfect. I like the longer more stable ride. I was thinking over 40” at least if we make a new board. Thank you for the feed back!
I was looking at, the Nomad and the OX, but weight again is the issue. I think getting a @tomiboi or Acedeck N1 deck and a 14s battery with a higher-amp ESC will cost just a little more. With the team’s help, I would be well worth it! I’m gonna tear this Demon up then jump into DIY mode.
The Tomiboi Odachi V2 is one of the stiffer decks I’ve come across if that’s something you’re looking for. Most bamboo decks might be too flexible for you? The odachi is nice cause you can choose single or double stack enclosure.
Ordering - Tomiboi Odachi V2 single stack enclosure, but not sure about the drop for 125 wheel clearance. 20mm or 45mm. I’ll go check out the DIY, somebody’s already discussed this somewhere, I’ll find it.
Next, I can sell my body for a month to get the ESC & 14s Battery. The board will be on its way.
I’ll try DKP trucks first. Man, I’m thankful for your input.
Haha! Definitely. Theres between 7-10 inches of snow coming to nyc this weekend so now i will be working 12 hour shifts for the next month LOL what is a personal life? This snow needs to stop so i can get back to riding and building.
I’m right there with ya here in Boston. Working 24hrs+ for this snow we’re getting tonight and they’re calling for another foot+ of snow Monday. Sold my soul for that white gold.
Cold weather is a no-go for me! It’s supposed to be 30 here on Monday for 3 days. I won’t go outside. I’d go further south if I could :). I will pray for all you Northerners! I don’t know how you do it, you’re tough as nails!
The new ESk8 shipped with a broken power button. I borrowed one, and the board came alive. Meanwhile, I’m playing email tag about every two days to get answers. Customer service by email is horse poop!
In my excitement, the enclosure slid off the deck to the floor, disconnecting the motor leads. Took it as an opportunity to learn the VESC-Tool. Propulsion Boards did a good video for people like me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5XNRXWyt8w&t=19s, so I downloaded VESC Tool 6.03 and off I went! Pretty cool stuff! I realized quickly that my version was not the same as the video! I found a 3.01 version and started all over again, 4 times! Yep, 4 times, followed the video to the letter, and all the tests were good until I paired the remote. After pairing, the remote wasn’t turning the motors.
Every time I set up the parameters and saved them, I noticed they reverted to the default, not to what I had set previously. My brain hurts. Usually, I would reference multiple setups from different people, but this is what Propulsion is saying to do! The definition of insanity is to do the same thing again * again, expecting different outcomes. Welcome to my Propulsion world.
