The ends?
Yup. And you can tell they’re using cheap decks. The splintering tells all.
I See evolve really as being in top price range for mid level quality boards ( ownboard exway wowgo ect) not so much as a high end board. But in that catagory of 12s4p belt drive boards their the only ones with a bambo deck/ wood deck. Which is a selling point for people who dont like stiff carbon decks. Im not gonna say really anything on them is high quality.
Some Evolves used to come with Orangatang Caguamas and some used to ship with ABEC11 wheels.
Some of their tires seem good.
A Defiant board would be better in nearly every way.
This is why I didn’t mention evolve when making comparisons to other boards in this price range.
This is more like saving $1k on something like a Bioboard than spending $500 more than an evolve
Good news! We finally have a deck manufacturer. Veneer is being ordered and the deck molds will be cut this week and shipped over afterward. Grip lasering is also handled. It was a real rollercoaster getting all of that sorted.
The molds were cut! Gorgeous work by Vince at Pushmore:
They’re on their way to Pennswood now.
And we finally decided on the bushing combo. @longhaireboy has been riding the absolute hell out of this board trying to figure out the default setup. Looks like we’ll be shipping with 87a Kranks board side and 84a road side with the trucks at a 50/50 split. Of course the customer can always change bushings and truck angles as they see fit.
And here are some pics of just the deck as we would receive it (minus grip and graphics, they will be doing that for us as well) once they’re all pressed and shipped, alongside the enclosure and foam gasket:
If the samples come back from Pennswood correct we’ll be happy to post pics of the final deck with grip and graphics once they arrive.
We’re still waiting on the trucks and gear drives, and a few other odds and ends. But we’re almost there!
Stay defiant!
Wanted to make some quick updates, so here goes:
Trucks and gear drives finally showed up. Sorry if we held up anyone’s Boardnamics orders…
Some of you may know already that these aren’t stock BN gear drives. The motors are rotated outboard at a fixed angle, the hangars are bevelled to accommodate that, and because we had a specific ratio in mind (2.22, or 60/27) the casings are super tight around the gears which should help keep them lubed a little better.
Also, we got picks from the deck factory. We should have samples in hand in a few days but these are the pics they sent us:
As a cost cutting measure we decided not to go with the nude edges on the production decks. The two sample decks from the designer have nude edges, however, and those boards will be used as review units.
If the factory samples look good we’ll be able to start final board assembly as soon as the first batch of decks arrive. In the mean time, assembly of the trucks and gear drives with wheels and motors will happen.
We’re tentatively planning to launch with partial inventory (meaning not all 100 boards may be built by then) mid November, but that could change depending on how things go. We’ll keep you updated.
Looking really good! That deck sure looks comfy
I was close to think that my quest for the holy e-board ends with this great power streetboard you are building => Bravo anyway !
… and if you ever plan a little more top speed oriented and lighter version (the rest basically matches my quest) => don’t forget to MP me !
this board really makes me think about esk8 design in ways I hadn’t considered before.
the custom gear drives are a very interesting idea. I’m super curious to see how having a set ratio and no room for adjustment affects reliability and efficacy of the transmission.
I feel like those seeking a “never needs repair and rarely needs mainaining” solution might be very enticed by these, especially if @Boardnamics made them available for us non-vendor plebs to use in DIY.
personally, when I buy and set up a gear drive I chose a ratio once and stick with it forever. I really don’t need adjustment and feel the rigidity of not having it may be a real boon.
What’s up yall! How is progress looking on the boards? I think everyone would be interested to hear an update
I had the pleasure of putting around 30 miles on one of these a few weeks ago. It rode awesome. I especially liked the feel of the deck.
Yeah I saw - that was almost a week ago though
Ok it’s definitely time for an update! Over the holidays we managed to finish assembling the 100 truck and gear drive assemblies, and got some organizing done to make room for the decks that will be here next week. The decks have been an interesting ride, but we won’t get into that.
We have also finished designing the packaging to ship the boards in and the first engineering sample on the box and foam was good but needed some tweaks, so the second sample will be here this week I believe.
The user manual is also in the final stages of development and proofing so we should see those soon as well.
So to sum up! The decks are almost here, the boxes are almost here, the manuals are almost here, we have enough trucks and drive assemblies, the enclosures are steadily streaming in so component population will be ongoing but we now have 18 sleds completed which is plenty to get started on final assembly. We expect to be able to start shipping boards by the end of January.
Also,
WE ARE NOW TAKING PREORDERS!
We take klarna, shop pay, affirm, Apple Pay, and the other usual payment types. And now that the holidays are pretty much over, we’re about to start the marketing thing in full.
So tell all your friends! We’re launching!
Exciting news! Looking forward to seeing it
I could be wrong but it seems you’re missing some important details in the specs section. What vesc? What battey configuration?
The website is beautifully done, really nice consistent branding, great transitions, your web designer did great.
Congrats for the launch
The board looks fantastic
I’am a bit skeptical about the Capybara head though (sorry)
