DAVEGA X Updates

you can use them together, they just can’t communicate properly afaik

What does that translate into for riding? Will it just not show me faults? Can I still see battery % and display telemetry data?

Not connecting it to the LLT BMS will have zero effect on the other functions of the DAVEGA. It will show you all telemetry, battery %, faults, etc. You just won’t be able to see the more detailed voltage breakdown within the pack. I just use an app on my phone for that.

I have an llt bms and it work fine with my Davega. Like Jan mentioned, it minimally depends on the bt module, so it might.

Mine connects fine but I don’t use the function as I prefer the phone app. It is nice to see the visual state of the cells though

I think all the newer version of llt bt use the same hardware.
They all do not connect to davega with the same symptom of white screen and reboot.
The new smaller jbd bms with the built in bt is so much better than the older versions but sadly doesn’t connect to davega.

Any suggestion? This happens while on the throttle, unless I’m full throttle. Full throttle is fine.

that’s the demon limited edition, have to go super fast for it to function normally

I have never seen anything like that before. Could be some hardware issue on the DAVEGA unit. Best if you could test it on another board to see if it’s the setup or it’s the DAVEGA.

Shit

Screen has been turning blue-ish after about an hour… Is this just wear and tear, or some known issue?

@SakuraDemon had this happen to him, but was fixed with new internals

DAVEGA is back in stock. Color options are limited though. I only ordered black housings this time since these are the most popular. We’re also about to launch Voyage Megan, which I imagine most people will prefer over DAVEGA so I only had enough housings made to even the numbers with the electronics units I still had on hand.

I’m not sure if this is the last batch or there will be another one. I would love to keep DAVEGA around as a more economical alternative to Megan (it should be $50-$100 cheaper). It all depends on if there’s enough interest. Either way, all the DAVEGA infrastructure will continue working. Firmware will still be getting bug fixes and compatibility updates if needed. And warranties will of course still be honored. So don’t be afraid to go ahead with the DAVEGA purchase if you prefer it over Megan or if you need the important features that Megan doesn’t have.

There are two small changes. The housings and screen protectors are from the same suppliers that we found for Megan.

Regarding housings, the aluminum has been sandblasted before anodizing, which gives the surfaces very nice grain. (This only applies to the black housings. The blue and purple is the old stock. Other colors are sold out.)

The screen protectors now have anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint coating. I compared with the original protectors and it’s not a huge difference so keep your expectations low here. The nice thing is that these protectors are much easier to clean. Also, they seem to reduce the color shift when looking from an angle. I was hoping that they would also improve the display readability on sunlight but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Overall, it’s definitely still an improvement but probably not worth paying the shipping cost to replace your current protector with the new one.

Here’s a picture. On the left, the new sandblasted housing with the new screen protector. On the right, the original housing (this one is from the very first batch) and the old protector. You will notice a little bit of a blue tint on the right, which is reduced (eliminated) on the left.

(And no, the red one is not for sale. Sorry!)

Can we expect the same color options with Megan as Davega?

We’ll play that by ear – see what people want. No specific plans yet.

Where have I heard this one before?

Could there be a chance that some of the improvements in Megan make there way over to DaveGA?

Ooh oh like moving the stack C+ assume that must have been done with the DaveGA codebase

On the LLT reading the cell values aspect I tried with the new kit v1.2 & 2 different BMS BLEs with the chipset layout that is supposed to work but it no likey.

Not sure how Metr works so well in this regard, but now is your chance to s̶t̶e̶a̶l̶ reuse Roman’s code :joy:

That’s unfortunately not planned. Megan code is C++. DAVEGA is micropython. Also, while the UI is similar, the engine is completely different. So porting Megan features to DAVEGA is not possible.

Regarding LLT, I don’t really have the capacity to work on it. It’s definitely not as easy as stealing the Metr code. The BLE APIs are very much different. I would need to order many different LLT BMS types and all the different BLE modules and do a ton of troubleshooting. And even then, I’m not sure I would be able to make it work flawlessly. The LLT support was implemented on DAVEGA as an experiment and I always advertised it as experimental. I’m afraid it remains that way. It’s not like it adds a whole lot of value anyway since you can always simply read the BMS data on your phone.
