DAVEGA X: Gauging interest

Bootloader v2.0 and firmware v2.0.1 are now available for download.

What’s new

  • DieBieMS and FlexiBMS support
  • better memory management
  • other minor updates/fixes, see CHANGELOG

.

Should I upgrade?

I recommend that you upgrade if you either plan to use the DAVEGA with a smart BMS or you’re troubled by frequent MemoryError issues. Otherwise, there’s no strong reason to upgrade. If everything is working for you, you’ll likely be better off keeping your current FW.

Preparation

  1. Write down your device ID. Menu > About.
  2. Do a back up in Menu > Backup. (If you’re unable to create a backup via WiFi, you can always export your data via a cable. See below.)

Downloading files

You’ll need the following:

  • bootloader v2.0 for your device ID (.bin file)
  • firmware v2.0.1 (.dfs file)
  • davegax-tool v1.2

You can get all of that from https://davega.eu/downloads.

Note that the bootloader files (.bin) are device specific; the firmware files (.dfs) are not. If you accidentally install the bootloader on a wrong device, it won’t work but you can always re-install it.

Getting access to the microUSB port

The easiest way to access the DAVEGA microUSB port is as follows:

  • loosen the 4 bolts that hold the PCB to the alu housing
  • carefully lift the side away from the buttons
  • plug the cable in

.

Installation

You will want to put the davegax-tool executable and your .bin and .dfs files all in the same directory. Then connect your DAVEGA X, run the davegax-tool and do the Auto-detect port (or Select port manually) first.

Then run the davegax-tool three more times to do the following:

  • export filesystem (just in case)
  • install bootloader (.bin)
  • import files (.dfs)

Note that export/import tends to freeze on Windows. If that happens, press ctrl+c and try again. This may require several attempts. The Mac OS version is not known to have the freezing issue, so if the freezing bothers you, just get yourself a Mac.

That’s it! Good luck.
